Job Description
Are you currently studying Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Engineering Science or a related technical discipline? Are you excited about applying mathematics, physics and engineering principles to real-world product development while helping shape the future capabilities of LEGO® elements?
Then this is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with complex engineering challenges and contribute to the development of the next generation of LEGO® bricks and play experiences enjoyed by children and adults around the world.
As a Student Worker in Mechanical Engineering, you will join an experienced engineering team developing complex LEGO novelty elements for future products. In close collaboration with engineers and stakeholders across design and operations, you will gain hands-on experience in product development while contributing to real engineering challenges.
Throughout your time with the team, you will learn how to apply mechanical engineering principles, mathematics, and physics to develop robust geometry solutions based on kinematic principles, with guidance from experienced colleagues.
This position offers a unique opportunity to learn how engineering decisions are translated into physical products and to gain practical experience in a collaborative, cross-functional development environment.
Core Responsibilities
As a Student Worker in the Exploration Engineering team, you will support the development of future engineering capabilities that enable robust LEGO® element design and improved product quality. Together with experienced engineers and specialists, you will:
- Support analysis and development of LEGO® connector systems using principles from mathematics, physics and engineering.
- Assist in evaluating design concepts and their performance through simulations, testing and data analysis.
- Contribute to investigations of design parameters and performance drivers using structured engineering methods.
- Support the creation and documentation of engineering standards, specifications and design guidelines.
- Assist with CAD modelling and preparation of technical documentation.
- Help collect, structure and analyze engineering data to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in experiments, evaluations and learning activities related to new technologies and design approaches.
- Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders across LEGO® Engineering and Operations to support ongoing development projects.
Play your part in our team succeeding
In Novelty Element Development we develop new LEGO bricks in close and strong collaboration with our main stakeholders. In Exploration Engineering, separated from our industrialized setup, we manage a higher degree of complex engineering by working very close together with key stakeholders across engineering and production from early idea phase to startup production. We experiment and evaluate and thereby establish organizational learnings to be used for engineering in future. In the team, we act as capability builders, being forefront whenever new moulding technologies are developed in engineering.
We want to change our entire connector solution base (the connector matrix) to enable operation to obtain required element quality, faster, cheaper and with less iterations.
We want to do this in a way where the brand appearance, perceived quality is unchanged, for a maximum of possible materials.
Do you have what it takes?
We imagine that you are currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree within Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Engineering Science, Product Development or a related technical field.
In addition, you:
- Have a strong interest in mathematics, physics, geometry and mechanical design.
- Enjoy analyzing technical problems and working with data-driven decision making.
- Have experience from coursework or projects involving mechanics, materials, product development or similar engineering disciplines.
- Are familiar with CAD software and have an interest in developing your design capabilities.
- Have an analytical and structured approach to problem-solving.
- Are curious, proactive and eager to learn from experienced colleagues.
- Enjoy collaborating with others and communicating technical topics clearly.
- Are proficient in English, both written and spoken.
Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. However, please note we do amend or withdraw our jobs and reserve the right to do so at any time, including prior to any advertised closing date. So, if you're interested in this role we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
