Postdoc Position in Medical Biotechnology

Department of Green Technology (IGT) invites applications for one position as Postdoc in Medical Biotechnology for a 4-year period. The starting date is October 1st 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is in the Biotechnology Section (BIOTECH).
The successful candidate will be expected to engage in research in fields falling within, or in strong synergy with, one or more of the following research areas at BIOTECH related to Medical Biotechnology:
- Medical biotechnology, including engineering of mammalian cells
- Tissue scaffold engineering and characterization
- Immune cells engineering and cancer research
- Other closely related fields
Experience in one or more of the above areas is therefore highly valued for this position. The successful candidate is expected to initiate and obtain funding for competitive research activities.

What we expect:
Qualifications
The candidate must have a PhD or equivalent at the time of employment.
The candidate is expected to have experience within some of the following areas and should be able to see themselves working with the following tasks:
- Research and/or education in biotechnology, biopolymers, spectroscopy, and/or related areas.
- Experience with the execution of wet lab experiments for cell engineering, cell and gene therapy research or tissue engineering.
- Experience with molecular biology techniques, bacterial cell culture, recombinant protein expression and purification.
- Experience working with mammalian cell culture and/or ex vivo animal or human tissues, and potentially with in vivo models.
- Proficiency in analytical and molecular techniques such as real-time PCR, ELISAs, SDS-PAGE, DNA electrophoresis, histology processing, immunostaining, multicolor flow cytometry, cell sorting and transcriptomic/metabolic profiling.
- Experience with confocal microscopy and imaging of mammalian cells, as well as animal or human tissues.
- Experience with biomaterial characterization and hydrogel-based systems for biomedical applications.
- Collaborating with companies/industry or other international research groups, e.g. evidenced by international exchanges.
- A highly interdisciplinary mind-set will be highly valued.
- To evaluate, discuss and present the results of findings internally and externally
- To publish results in peer-reviewed journals of high impact factor
- Support laboratory process, including instrumentation maintenance, training of new researchers, and improvement of laboratory worflows.
- Participate to the general organization of the research labs.
Teaching in existing courses at IGT will be expected. Experience in and dedication to teaching (and mentoring) tasks will be highly merited.

BIOTECH is part of the Department for Green Technology (IGT), at the Faculty of Engineering at SDU.
IGT is a highly interdisciplinary department with state of the art laboratories.
Odense is an international-friendly and very family-friendly city with a rich cultural life, located on the fjord. It about an hour from Copenhagen and with direct train connection to Copenhagen’s international airport.
SDU’s Odense Campus is situated in the beatiful Danish nature in the midst of fields and forest with a remarkable wildlife right at the doorstep of SDU.

Employment terms
Employment as a post doc is a 4-year temporary position.
Employment as a postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level at the time of employment. Employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state including the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for postdoc as described therein.
Salary is determined in accordance with the applicable collective agreement and based on objective and gender-neutral criteria, including the content of the position, responsibilities, and qualification requirements. As an applicant, you are entitled to information about the starting salary and salary range for the position. This information will be provided during the recruitment process.
