Your work tasks
How do wireless-enabled embodied/physical AI systems, including robots, autonomous vehicles, and drones, develop rich frameworks to interact with the world in real time? This is the main underlying theme to be explored within this postdoctoral position. The appointed researcher will investigate how AI embedded in physical entities, such as robots, vehicles, or sensors, form representations of space, motion, and context through continuous, multimodal interaction with their environment, and how these representations support robust perception and autonomous decision-making in dynamic, non-stationary settings. The research will address how agents fuse heterogeneous sensory streams, including vision, LiDAR, inertial measurements, and radio signals, to maintain coherent spatial awareness and act reliably under uncertainty. A particular focus will be placed on learning and decision-making architectures capable of real-time operation across heterogeneous physical platforms. The position will further explore how wireless networks, including 6G, WiFi, and satellite systems, support robust perception and inference for distributed AI agents, and how the realities of networked operation shape the design of adaptive, resilient intelligence. Finally, the research will address how groups of embodied/physical AI agents coordinate and act at scale, paving the way toward embodied intelligence in large-scale intelligent systems. The successful candidate will bring strong foundations in embodied AI, robotic perception, spatiotemporal learning, or world modeling, and will develop this expertise in the context of wirelessly enabled embodied AI systems.
Your competencies
Prospective applicants for this postdoctoral should have the following qualifications:
- Ph. D. degree in data science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, mathematical engineering, or similar.
- Proven track record in the Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or Robotics, reflected through contributions to major conferences (ICLR, IEEE ICRA, NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, ECCV, SIGGRAPH, ICCV, etc.)
- Solid mathematical and analytical skills.
- Knowledge about statistical machine learning, robotic perception, multimodal AI algorithms.
- Proven experience with reinforcement learning algorithms and implementations.
- Experience in programming, e.g., in Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar.
- Curiosity and willingness to work with researchers from a heterogeneous group, with core expertise in communication theory, networking, information theory, statistics, and quantum communication.
Qualification requirements
Appointment as postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
Who we are
The successful candidate will be hosted by the Connectivity Section. The Head of the Section on Connectivity, Prof. Petar Popovski, is also the Director of the Center for Classical Communication in the Quantum Era (CLASSIQUE). This position will be funded by the Villum Investigator Grant WATER, which explores the connected intelligence in the next generation wireless systems. The Connectivity Section works in the area of communication theory, wireless communications and networking. Its research activities are organized in six focused subgroups: (1) quantum communications; (2) low-latency and time-constrained communication; (3) satellite and non-terrestrial networking; (4) interplay between AI/ML learning/inference and communications; (5) communication and sensing; (6) experimental works on open-radio access network (O-RAN). The group features a dynamic and international working atmosphere and is located in Aalborg, a city in the northern part of Denmark that tops quality-of-life charts. The successful candidate will enjoy a world-class research environment, excellent working and networking conditions, and full employment benefits.
