Danmarks Tekniske Universitet

Are you prepared to engage in international projects and perform high-impact research, gaining practical experience in modelling, forecasting, and optimization? If so, this position is ideal for you.

It offers the chance to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders from academia and industry, enabling you to contribute to proposing innovative technological and digital solutions for the entire energy sector.

The dynamical system section at DTU Compute is looking for postdoc researchers to join projects in the domain of power systems. The projects provide innovative and sustainable solutions for power systems forecasting and state estimation, and optimization of energy buildings and energy communities' operation, to improve energy efficiency, support renewable energy resources, and utilize demand side flexibility for supporting the grid stability. The projects will involve stakeholder engagement across the EU and dissemination activities to ensure the success and sustainability of the project outcomes.

You will become a member of the dynamical systems group, working alongside colleagues with diverse backgrounds. Your primary role will be to contribute to project tasks that demand a deep understanding of power system operation and dynamics, frequency control, and optimization methods. To excel in this role, you must have a strong background in power system control and dynamics, optimization, and machine learning. The project's details will be disclosed to the shortlisted candidates during the interview process.

Responsibilities and qualifications
As a postdoc researcher in this group:

  • You will work on frequency control in power systems using demand-side flexibility,
  • You will develop advanced optimization and coordination methods for different types of loads, including electric vehicles and heat pumps,
  • You will contribute to developing state estimation methods for distribution grids,
  • You will engage in project management activities and funding applications related to your field of research.
  • You will work in close collaboration with academic and industry partners.
  • Contributing to ongoing activities within the group.
  • You are expected to contribute to publishing the project results.

A successful candidate will have a solid background in the following areas:

  • Strong background in power systems dynamics and frequency control, especially for interconnected multi-area power systems,
  • Expert in optimization and control methodologies for electric vehicles and thermal and electrical storage,
  • Background in machine learning techniques and their application in power systems,
  • Research vision and potential,
  • Background in programming tools such as Python and Julia,
  • Self-motivated and highly independent,
  • Internal and external collaboration,
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Good ability to present results in oral presentations and prepare scientific papers for publication in international journals.
