Aalborg Universitet (AAU)
Student programmer in underwater computer vision and machine learning (fixed-term, part-time)
Jobbeskrivelse
We are looking for a student programmer to join the Visual Analysis and Perception Lab at the Media Technology Section as part of the LOTUS-PTO project, which develops a long-term underwater camera and light system. The position is fixed-term for one year, part-time with 5 hours per week during the semester and 37 hours per week in the summer holidays, with a preferred starting date of 1 October 2026.
Your work tasks
You will be part of a small group working on computer vision challenges in underwater environments within the LOTUS-PTO project. Your main tasks will be to work with experimental underwater hardware setups, including cameras and lighting systems, to prepare and run experiments and to ensure that the systems operate reliably.
You will develop and adapt computer vision and machine learning code in Python and C++, process and analyse collected data, and create visualisations that support interpretation of results. You will also document code, experimental procedures and results, help maintain code repositories and contribute material that can be used in internal reports and research publications.
Your comptetencies
You are enrolled in a relevant study programme such as computer science, software engineering, medialogy, robotics or data science at bachelor or master level. You are comfortable programming in Python and C++ and have a solid foundation in core computer science. It is an advantage, but not a requirement, if you have experience with computer vision, machine learning, or machine vision cameras and lenses, for example Basler cameras.
You can work in English in your daily tasks and in meetings, and it is a plus if you also speak Danish. As a person, you collaborate well with others, communicate openly about your progress, and are willing to take on both hardware and software tasks. You work carefully and systematically with experiments, code and data, and you take responsibility for producing results that are reliable and well documented.
Who we are
You will join the Visual Analysis and Perception Lab in the Media Technology Section, a social and informal research environment where students and researchers work together on visual computing and perception. Within the lab, you will be part of a small team that focuses specifically on underwater computer vision in the LOTUS-PTO project, which develops a long-term underwater camera and light system.
We offer flexible working hours that can be adapted to your study activities, and you can work from home when tasks allow it. You will have close contact with your supervisor and the project team and gain practical experience with research-oriented software development, experimental work and data analysis in an active research lab.
