We also offer advice on linguistic matters.

In your role as a trainee, you will join a multidisciplinary team working at the intersection of business transformation, technology and artificial intelligence (AI) within the Language Support and Innovation Section. Our team is working on modernising the technology landscape for multilingual communication, replacing fragmented legacy tools with an integrated, AI-ready platform for workflow automation, translation management, data analytics and future AI-enabled services. You will work closely with others in our Directorate General as part of cross-divisional teams handling strategic communication projects or urgent tasks.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role As a trainee in the Language Support and Innovation Section, you will:

  • support the evaluation of technology options and proofs of concept;
  • contribute to process modelling, user journeys and future-state operating models;
  • coordinate with stakeholders from business and IT areas;
  • support Mendix low-code development;
  • support web development (Node.js) and AI development (Python).

The traineeship offers you excellent opportunities to work closely with business experts, IT architects, project managers, cybersecurity specialists, AI experts and external consultants, gaining exposure to the design and delivery of a large-scale digital transformation programme within a European institution. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills Essential:

  • a bachelor’s degree or higher in information systems, computer science, business information systems, data science, engineering, digital transformation, business analytics or a related field;
  • strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • proficiency in JavaScript, Python, C#, Java or another programming language;
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • attention to detail;
  • an ability to structure complex information and present findings clearly;
  • a very good knowledge of the MS Office package;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:

  • familiarity with business analysis and low-code platforms (e.g. Mendix);
  • an interest in multilingual communication.

You are curious and eager to learn, and want to further develop your ability to analyse complex information. You are keen to collaborate with others, pursue team goals and learn from other people’s diverse perspectives. You strive to know and anticipate stakeholder needs, and will signal any need for change and propose alternative solutions.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe. You are keen to be part of our team and to use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.
