The Department of Science Education and the Center for Pharmaceutical Data Science Education (CPDSE) seek a Postdoc in pharmaceutical data science education with a focus on Computational Writing. The 2-year position involves educational research in an emerging field that synthesises expertise in pharmaceutical science and data science. The position will include collaboration within the Center, aligning with strategic initiatives across the partner institutions, involving seven departments at the University of Copenhagen and University of Southern Denmark. The position is open from January 1st, 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The project
Pharmaceutical data science (PDS) is an emerging field between data science and pharmaceutical sciences, in which data science is applied to drug discovery, development, and safety, algorithms and databases are developed and tailored to pharmaceutical data, and data drives pharmaceutical experiments. Educational practice and research in pharmaceutical data science is interdisciplinary, as students must learn not just computational methods and pharmaceutical practice, but also to formulate questions, build arguments, interpret data and document processes in ways that are recognizable in both domains.

The postdoc will be conducting educational research on computational writing in pharmaceutical data science education. The project will investigate how students and teachers develop, use, assess, and make sense of computational texts. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of a research agenda around computational writing as a site for forming pharmaceutical data science competences.

In addition, teaching and dissemination work will occupy approximately 20% of the work time, primarily within courses and projects hosted by the Department of Science Education. The successful candidate will receive training and certification in university pedagogy, to support both teaching here and in later career steps. To a limited extent, this may also include other duties.

Who are we looking for?
We seek a candidate with a strong research profile in university science education. Documented qualifications in data science are required. This may include systematic data collection on student learning and experiences, learning analytics, network analysis, and quantitative data analysis. Experience with educational research on student learning, academic writing, computational notebooks, data science education, AI-supported learning, or interdisciplinary higher education will be considered an advantage. Candidates with other research specialisms in university science education will also be considered. Experience collaborating with a range of disciplines pertaining to pharmaceutical science, data science, and educational science will be considered an advantage.

The Center for Pharmaceutical Data Science Education
The Center for Pharmaceutical Data Science Education is a close collaboration between the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) and the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). The goal of the center is to advance Danish education within pharmaceutical sciences through integration of data science. The center is anchored at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, UCPH.

The Center’s vision is to make pharmaceutical data science a catalyst for life science and healthcare strongholds. To achieve this, the Center will develop and deliver research-based education for the future workforce – spanning bachelor, master, PhD, and life-long learning. The Center is based upon grant funding of DKK 123 million from three Danish private foundations: the Novo Nordisk Foundation, the Lundbeck Foundation, and the LEO Foundation. The Center is a collaboration between the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) and the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and encompasses seven departments. The research environment
The Department of Science Education is an interdisciplinary department, and the successful applicant is expected to engage in interdisciplinary activities in relation to teaching and development work. It is a hallmark of our research to unite strong fundamental and applied research with a high impact on society, including themes that are of particular interest to the University of Copenhagen in general as well as to the Faculty of Science in particular. The Centre for Digital Education is affiliated with both the Department of Science Education and the Department of Computer Science. It is not a requirement to be able to teach in Danish. Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, internationally competitive research. The ability to attract external funding will be considered together with outreach qualifications. Teaching qualifications are not mandatory but documented teaching qualifications and teaching experience will be considered.

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 2 years.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 39,900 DKK/approx. 5,300 EUR (August 2026 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 18.07 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
