Laboratory assistant in the Blackford Group, Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM)

Københavns Universitet

The research group of Andrew Blackford is looking for a motivated laboratory assistant. The position is available from October 1st, 2026, or soon thereafter.

About us
The aim of the Blackford Group’s research is to gain a greater understanding of the signalling mechanisms cells use to coordinate DNA double-strand break recognition and repair with cell cycle checkpoint activation and apoptosis. The lab uses cutting-edge bioinformatics, proteomics, microscopy and CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing techniques to answer specific questions related to DNA damage signalling. In doing so, we hope to provide novel insights into carcinogenesis and how it is held at bay by the cell’s DNA damage response system. We also aim to translate our research to develop novel potential cancer treatments.

Your tasks
The tasks performed will vary from week-to-week, but will include:

  • Ordinary cleaning
  • Filling up lab supplies
  • Garbage handling (no chemicals)
  • Filling up pipettes
  • Glass washing
  • Simple computational tasks (database maintenance, coding)

Essential experience and skills:

  • Excellent organizational skills and capacity for time management

The position will be paid by the hour according to Labor Grade 1 and the employment will be in accordance with the current agreement between the Danish Government and HK-stat (Dansk Laborant-forening). It is expected that the post-holder will require flexibility in their working hours, but 10 hours on average per week would be desirable.
