Postdoc in Experimental Atmospheric Physical Chemistry

The postdoctoral researcher will play a central role in the operation, development, and scientific exploitation of the University of Copenhagen's ACTRIS atmospheric research infrastructure. The successful candidate will carry out laboratory and field studies of atmospheric chemical processes, develop new experimental capabilities, and contribute to scientific publications, teaching, and research proposals, supporting the continued development of internationally competitive atmospheric chemistry research.
Key responsibilities include:
Experimental atmospheric chemistry
· Design and execution of laboratory experiments using atmospheric simulation chambers
· Investigation of gas-phase and multiphase atmospheric chemical processes
· Development of new experimental methods and measurement protocols
ACTRIS research infrastructure
· Operation, maintenance, and further development of the ACTRIS aerosol chamber facility
· Operation and quality assurance of the rooftop atmospheric monitoring station
· Development and implementation of new measurement capabilities and experimental infrastructure
Instrumentation and data analysis
· Operation, calibration, and maintenance of advanced atmospheric chemistry instrumentation
· Processing and interpretation of laboratory and field datasets
· Development of data analysis workflows and uncertainty assessment
Research and funding
· Preparation of peer-reviewed scientific publications
· Contribution to national and international research proposals
· Development of new research activities within the ACTRIS infrastructure
Teaching and supervision
· Supervision of MSc and BSc student research projects
· Contribution to teaching and laboratory instruction in general, physical and atmospheric chemistry
· Support for collaborative research projects within the Department
We are looking for a candidate with:
· PhD in atmospheric chemistry, physical chemistry, or a related discipline
· Strong experimental background in atmospheric chemistry
· Experience with laboratory instrumentation and atmospheric measurements
· Experience with atmospheric simulation chambers
· Experience in scientific programming and data analysis (Python, MATLAB, or R)
· Demonstrated publication record in peer-reviewed journals
· Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English
Preferred qualifications:
· Experience with ACTRIS or similar atmospheric research infrastructures
· Experience developing or maintaining advanced scientific instrumentation
· Experience supervising MSc or BSc students
· Experience teaching laboratory or university courses
· Demonstrated success in preparing research grant proposals
· Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to interdisciplinary collaborations
Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
