About the Copenhagen Trial Unit
CTU is an internationally recognised clinical intervention research unit specialising in clinical research methodology. We provide expertise and infrastructure for the planning, conduct, analysis and interpretation of methodological research projects, randomised clinical trials and systematic reviews across medical specialties.

Project description
The PhD project focuses on assessing and reporting environmental impacts in clinical trials.

The ICE project (Implementing Climate and other Environmental Outcomes in Trials) addresses the lack of consistent reporting of environmental impacts in clinical research. CTU is developing SPIRIT-ICE and CONSORT-ICE to provide international guidance for this purpose.

The PhD student will play a central role in the ICE project, including evidence syntheses, Delphi studies, and consensus processes, and contribute to developing the SPIRIT-ICE and CONSORT-ICE guidelines in collaboration with an international research group.

The candidate will also contribute to other methodological and clinical research projects at CTU, including randomised trials and systematic reviews.

Key responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Principal investigator of the ICE project in collaboration with national and international partners.
• Conduct methodological research, including evidence syntheses, Delphi studies and consensus processes.
• Support other clinical research projects, including co-coordination and data management of the SafeBoosC-IIIv trial, and act as a methodological consultant on international randomised trials within neonatology, neurology and cardiothoracic surgery.
• Provide methodological support to clinical research projects and contribute to systematic reviews and evidence synthesis.
• Assist in teaching and supervision of students.
• Contribute to grant applications, scientific publications and the development of future research projects.
• Complete a PhD thesis and participate actively in the research environment, including a research stay at another research institution and completion of approximately 30 ECTS points of PhD courses.

Qualifications
We seek a candidate with a combination of methodological, operational and interdisciplinary research competencies, together with a clinical background.

The ideal candidate will have:

• A master’s degree in medicine (cand.med.) or an equivalent degree and completed Clinical Basic Training before commencing the fellowship.
• Documented experience with the development or coordination of reporting guideline extensions, preferably CONSORT and/or SPIRIT extensions.
• Experience with research on environmental impact assessment or sustainability in clinical research, preferably demonstrated through scientific publications.
• Experience coordinating international methodological research projects and randomised clinical trials within neonatology, neurology and cardiothoracic surgery.
• Experience with systematic reviews, evidence synthesis and clinical research methodology within psychiatry and endocrinology.
• The ability to independently plan, coordinate and complete complex research projects.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary and international research teams.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in Danish and English.

Experience with grant writing, teaching and supervision will be considered an advantage.
