Join CERN's Geodetic Metrology Group and contribute to the metrology and alignment of components used in particle physics experiments. Your main focus will be the Full Remote Alignment System (FRAS), which uses a network of high-precision sensors and electromechanical actuators to monitor and remotely adjust accelerator components with micrometric precision.
As a Mechanical Technician in the High Precision Alignment Technologies Section, you will contribute to the procurement, assembly, testing, installation and commissioning of FRAS mechanical and electromechanical components.
Your responsibilities:
- Supporting the procurement of FRAS mechanical and electromechanical components, including quality assurance and acceptance activities.
- Assembling and testing FRAS components, initially in the workshop and subsequently in the LHC tunnel.
- Preparing assembly, installation and validation documentation, including reports and procedure updates.
- Taking part in the commissioning of the mechanical and electromechanical equipment, from individual components through to the complete FRAS installation.

Your profile:
- Experience in mechanics, electromechanical systems or mechatronics.
- Experience in the assembly, testing and commissioning of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems.
- Experience in writing technical documentation would be an advantage.
Skills:
- Practical technical skills in mechanics, mechatronics or a related field.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanics, Electro-Mechanics, Production (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree are not eligible.

Job closing date / deadline: 11/05 2026 at 23:59 CET.
Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
Working hours: 40 hours per week
Job flexibility: Fully Onsite
Target start date: 01-February-2027

- Interventions in underground installations.
- A valid driving licence.
- Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.
