Postdocs in Experimental Quantum Optical Information - DTU Physics
Danmarks Tekniske Universitet
Are you an experimental quantum physicist who wants to create and control new quantum states of light and matter?
We are seeking three postdocs for the Quantum Physics and Information Technology section at DTU Physics. You will lead one of three experimental projects in quantum opto-acoustics, continuous-variable (CV) quantum communication, or CV quantum computing, working in an international team with advanced optical, cryogenic and electronic laboratories.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your main responsibility will be to drive an experiment from design and implementation to measurement, analysis and publication. The three positions have distinct scientific focuses; applicants should indicate the track or tracks that best match their background:
- Quantum opto-acoustics: Develop cavity optomechanical and opto-acoustic experiments aimed at preparing, controlling and detecting non-classical states of large, high-Q mechanical systems.
- CV quantum communication: Develop entanglement-enhanced communication using squeezed and entangled light, including generation, distribution and detection of CV entanglement and demonstrations beyond corresponding classical strategies.
- CV quantum computing: Develop optical resource states for scalable CV quantum computing, with emphasis on high-quality squeezing, multimode and cluster-state resources, non-Gaussian states, measurement-based operations and real-time feedforward.
- Across the projects, build low-noise optical and electronic systems, develop control and analysis software, collaborate with students and external partners, and publish and present your results.
We seek candidates with a strong experimental background in quantum optics, atomic, molecular and optical physics, optomechanics, photonics, or a related field, and demonstrated ability to build and troubleshoot complex experiments. Experience with squeezed or entangled light, homodyne detection, phase locking, cavity optomechanics, cryogenic measurements, fiber or integrated optics, low-noise electronics, or real-time control is relevant. A strong match to one track is sufficient; experience across all three is not expected. We value initiative, careful experimental work and collaboration.
As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
We offer
DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.
Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. In addition, supplements can be negotiated in accordance with DTU’s salary structure for scientific staff: www.inside.dtu.dk/en/human-resources/during-employment/salary/salary-structures.
The period of employment is 2 years. The positions are full-time. Starting date is as soon as possible.

Application procedure
Your complete online application must be submitted no later than 30 October 2026 (23:59 Danish time). Applications must be submitted as one PDF file containing all materials to be given consideration. To apply, please open the link "Apply now", fill out the online application form, and attach all your materials in English in one PDF file. The file must include:
- Application (cover letter)
- CV
- Academic Diplomas (MSc/PhD – in English)
- List of publications
In your cover letter, please state which project track(s) you wish to be considered for and briefly explain the match to your experimental experience.
Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, disability, race, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply. As DTU works with research in critical technology, which is subject to special rules for security and export control, open-source background checks may be conducted on qualified candidates for the position.
At DTU Physics, the Quantum Physics and Information Technology (QPIT) section engineers quantum systems of light and matter for quantum information processing and precision measurement. Our experiments combine quantum optics with nanophotonics, optomechanics, cryogenic technology and advanced control. You will join a highly international and collaborative environment spanning quantum communication, computing and sensing, including activities within the Center for Macroscopic Quantum States (bigQ).
