Postdoc in Computational Controversy Mapping and STS - DTU Management
Danmarks Tekniske Universitet
If you wish to develop your research within Science & Technology Studies (STS) and Computational Controversy Mapping, you may consider applying for this postdoctoral position (21 months).
We are looking to hire a candidate to help realize the democratic responsibility ambitions put forth in the 2026-2031 DTU strategy in collaboration between ECHOlab and the central communications team to establish an Observatory for Technological Questions in Society. The observatory will provide continuous analyses of public debates about technology in Denmark, develop new computational methods for controversy mapping to support this endeavor, and test a variety of communication formats for making observatorial insights about the state of technological debate relevant to stakeholders at DTU and beyond. You will be based at Department of Technology, Management and Economics. Your workplace will be in the Science and Technology Studies section at DTU Lyngby Campus. You will be affiliated with the Observatory of Human-Centered Engineering (ECHOLab), where you will work closely together with Anders Kristian Munk, Mathieu Jacomy and observatory project team.
Responsibilities and qualifications
You must have a PhD degree or documentation by means of a letter from your supervisor that you will obtain the PhD degree no later than 4 months after starting the Post Doc.
You must have experience with controversy analysis in Science & Technology Studies (STS) and adjacent disciplines. It is particularly important that you have demonstrated practical experience with empirical case work in this field and a solid grasp on the theoretical foundations for studying technological controversies in society. Familiarity with digital/computational controversy mapping methods is an advantage.
Your core responsibilities will be to build a theoretically well-founded pipeline for the continuous analysis of technological debates in Denmark and manage the pipeline to produce ongoing observatorial insights as the debates change. You will collaborate with the technical team who are building the computational part of the pipeline. The goal is to figure out which parts of the analysis can be automated and where to put human analysts productively in the loop. As part of our strategic research collaboration with the central communications department, you will also test and organize the way observatorial insights can be made useful for various stakeholders at DTU.
