Centre for Digital and Computational Humanities (CDCH), Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen
Karen Blixens Plads 8, 2300 København S
Part-time (10–15 hours per week)
Start Date: As soon as possible
About the Role
The Centre for Digital and Computational Humanities (CDCH) at the University of Copenhagen is a hub where the humanities meet digital technology. We work at the intersection of data, computation, and humanities research to build trustworthy AI tools that enhance how researchers explore and understand complex cultural and historical materials.
We are seeking a motivated student with strong communication skills to support the development and promotion of two AI systems at our centre:
FREE (https://free.cdch.dk/) extracts structured data from unstructured documents, such as reports and journal articles.
Relay (https://relay.cdch.dk/) is an AI retrieval system that grounds its responses in source materials to help reduce hallucinations and facilitate searches across large collections.
Your Role and Responsibilities
In this position, you will support efforts to ensure the accuracy and reliability of our systems and assist with onboarding new users. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the improvement of user interfaces and user experience (UI/UX) by helping analyse how the systems perform in practice.
Your tasks may include:
Quality Assurance: Assisting in the development of system checks and evaluation methods used to assess the quality and reliability of outputs from large language models (LLMs).
UI/UX Development: Contributing to the improvement of user interfaces based on user feedback, including feedback gathered during onboarding activities.
Outreach and Promotion: Supporting presentations and promotional activities aimed at different user groups, including university centres and events.
Collaboration Across Disciplines: Working closely with researchers and developers and gaining insight into the intersection of AI, software development, and human-computer interaction.
Who You Are
You enjoy exploring new technologies, engaging with users, and communicating complex ideas clearly. You are comfortable presenting to different audiences and interested in understanding how people interact with technology. You have some front-end development experience and can bring your UI ideas to life using AI tools.
Requirements:
Interest in UI/UX Design: You enjoy creating intuitive interfaces, identifying usability challenges, and finding practical ways to improve the user experience.
Analytical Mindset: You are thorough and systematic, and you enjoy identifying patterns in data and using them to improve system design.
Presentation and Communication Skills: You enjoy presenting ideas, explaining technical solutions, and engaging different audiences in a clear and accessible way.
Experience using at least one generative AI system, such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Microsoft Copilot.
It is a plus but not a requirement if you have:
Experience with AI coding assistants or with building small applications using generative AI.
A basic understanding of concepts such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), conversational AI, or LLM evaluation.
A background in or an interest in digital humanities.
What We Offer
Flexible Hours: We understand the demands of university life. Your working hours will be flexible to accommodate your studies, averaging approximately 10–15 hours per week.
Professional Growth: You will gain hands-on experience with AI verification processes and strengthen your portfolio with a tangible project.
Office Space: You will have your own desk at our office and become part of an inclusive, innovative team where collaboration and learning are prioritised. And, of course, there is free coffee!
Salary and Contract
Contract: The position is for six months, with the possibility of an extension.
Salary: Employment and remuneration will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Public Employees’ Organizations – The State Sector (OAO Joint Agreement), as well as the organizational agreement for Office Clerks, Laboratory Technicians, and IT Staff (HK), section 35.
DKK 145,73 (current level)
Eligibility: You must be actively enrolled as a student at a higher education institution.
