What is Manelleh?
At Manelleh we sell interiors, accessories and gifts that are handmade by women. The purpose of the business is to make a difference for women around the world. All products are made by social fair trade companies. Every time you buy a product, you contribute to more women having proper, meaningful and dignified jobs.

At Manelleh we value craft traditions, unique and personal products that take time to make. We strive to sell products that harm the environment as little as possible. We prefer to work with materials that are upcycled, recycled and organic and that can last for many years into the future

The core of our business is that we work closely with all our business partners around the world. That way, we know how each individual product is made, who it is made by, and what the women are paid. And thus we ensure that the women have a responsible salary level and a proper working environment.

Whos behind?
My name is Maria Manel Bøge, and I am the founder of Manelleh.

I have 20 years of experience in working with communication, strategy and sustainability. I have previously been a manager in large international companies (e.g. ISS), a startup, a research center (KVINFO) and an NGO (Save the Children). For a period I was Director of the CSR Foundation, whose purpose was to put CSR and sustainability on the agenda - nationally and globally.

I have a master's degree in communication from Aalborg University (2006), and in 2020 I completed an MBA at Henley Business School. Alongside Manelleh, I am a board member of GAME, an award-winning international NGO. Finally, I am part of the jury behind the FINANCE IMPACT Awards.

What can Manelleh offer?
I can promise you that you will learn a lot during your internship. In relation to designing and developing new products, you will work closely with the business's business partners in Bangladesh (and possibly an additional country). In addition, it will primarily be you and me who will be working together - and you will be given fun, quirky and challenging tasks - all related to creating value for a purpose-driven company.

I have my studio centrally located right by Langebro and Islands Brygge. The studio is approx. 300 m2 and consists of showroom, office and warehouse. A few times a month it is open for customers to come and shop physically in our showroom.

During the internship period (probably March or April) we will take a trip to Bangladesh and visit the organizations I work with. Here we meet the women who make products for Manelleh. Here you will have ample opportunity to use your professional background and learn a lot about design and product development.

You are also welcome to stay / work in Bangladesh for e.g. a month if you are interested in it. Regardless of whether it will be a week or a month, you will have an experience of a lifetime. The trip is paid for by Manelleh, as part of your internship.

What will you do during your internship?
Your primary task will be:

• To further develop and rethink the company's design of interiors, accessories and gifts
• To participate in the design process and contribute from the initial stages to completion and production
• To develop a collection of products that are sustainable and can last for many years into the future
• To use and contribute to rethinking the company's current methods
• To incorporate consideration for people and the environment in the work with design and product development

In addition, you can participate in everything you want. This can, for example, further develop the business, design new products, collaborate with existing partners in Bangladesh and develop an understanding of accounting, etc.
