DO YOU WANT TO MAKE A HISTORICAL COMPUTER GAME? GAMUCATEX IS LOOKING FOR 1-3 FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME HISTORY OR ARCHEOLOGY STUDENTS OR GRADUATES IN 2023.
GAMUCATEX is moving closer and closer to the completion of the alpha version of 'Project Tectonicus’, a historical computer game, which in its first edition deals with the Viking Age. We work hard to ensure that the game content is founded in history, so we are looking for consultants and researchers dealing primarily with history for game development.

As a Historian, you will become part of the History Department, where you will do in-depth research on all historical aspects, features, illustrations, etc. in the game. We offer an opportunity to translate your core expertise into communication in a concrete game product. In addition, you get a lot of development opportunities, and get the opportunity to try out several different parts of the game development process, as well as business development, marketing, and other exciting tasks.

In addition to the work in the history department, you will also have the opportunity to get to know and perhaps collaborate with:

• Game design
• Marketing and SoMe content
• Illustrations
• Graphic design
• Business development
• Programming (in Unity)

We expect:

• That you are studying or have graduated from either history or archaeology
• You can work independently and are not afraid to throw yourself into new challenges
• You can communicate effortlessly in English both verbally and in writing
• You are able to commit time into team meetings regarding updates and and the course of the project

It will also be an advantage, but not a requirement if you:

• Have worked with Viking Age Scandinavia, England, and/or the Frankish Empire through teaching, fieldwork, museum work, or other.
• Have prior knowledge about other Viking Age European or Mediterranean cultures such as Kyivan Rus, Byzantine/Eastern Roman Empire, or the Moors of the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa.
• Are studying or have graduated with a degree at the Master's level
• Have experience in studying military history or material history; these particular fields speed up the process of looking at the accuracy of items for art for the production of the game
• Have experience with communication tasks, especially funding applications
• Have insight into the world of games, in particular history of games
• Have an interest in entrepreneurship

About our game
GAMUCATEX is an early-stage startup developing a card-based auto battler video game in a historical universe. Inspired by games such as Magic, Civilizations, the Age of Empires, and Heroes, we aim to create an immersive and historically accurate game that inspires people to engage in history and mythology. Although the game is in production, you can check it out on Itch by searching online for “Tectonicus: On the Edge of War”.

The player will be taking charge of a faction - either Viking, Frankish, or Anglo-Saxon - which they will follow through history; experiencing past events according to historical records. Battles on a turn-based board will take place online for multiplayer and can be offline in single-player scenarios. You will lead your forces to your enemy’s lines and holding your morale high, you will dominate the fight!

The position can either be onsite, hybrid or remote, part-time or full-time. As we are currently seeking funding, the position will be unpaid but can contribute to an internship. Our offices are located in three locations in Copenhagen: Nørrebro, Frederiksberg and Amager. Please note we organize learn-by-doing collaborations/internships and we cannot guarantee a dedicated mentor, however, we can offer a creative environment where you can test your skills and ideas in a professional setting and collaborate with talented team members.
