INTERNSHIP IN HUMAN RIGHTS, BUSINESS AND TECH – FALL YEAR (2024)

Institut for Menneskerettigheder

As intern in the Department, you will contribute to our ongoing work to integrate human rights standards in the world of business.

You will develop skills and competences in human rights research and analysis and learn about how the Institute contributes to the implementation of human rights standards in relation to business activities through partnerships with national human rights institutions, the development of dialogue and accountability systems at international and regional levels and engagement with a variety of economic actors.

Please consult www.humanrights.dk for a general introduction to the Danish Institute for Human Rights.

You will be assigned a supervisor and assist our project-teams. The internship will familiarise you with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the main international standard in the area of business and human rights, train your ability to apply theory in practice, and to communicate effectively in an international, multicultural team and sharpen your time management and prioritisation skills. It is expected to that you will participate in a variety of research endeavours and provide support to the development of tools and guidance (70-80%) as well as administrative support (20-30%). It is a requirement that you currently are or will be enrolled in an ongoing master’s level education programme at the start of the internship and should be able to have your internship transferred into university credits
and that a work permit
can be obtained for the duration of the internship. It is possible to take time off to work on school assignments, internship reports or exam preparation, but we should be informed about any university workload or other obligation you might need to attend to in your motivation letter.

International students (or students based outside of Denmark) should be aware that this is an unpaid position (as Denmark provides students studying in Denmark with a stipend to study and undertake internships) and we thus encourage international students to seek and apply for a grant/scholarship that would allow them to cover the living costs in Denmark.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The position is full-time, unpaid, and based in Copenhagen. We offer up to six-months internships, and duration and starting date (preferably in August or September) can be negotiated.

The Danish Institute for Human Rights appreciates diversity in the workplace. If qualified, we strongly encourage you to apply for the position.
