Two Student Assistants to support our programmes in Africa and Middle East

BØRNEfonden

A student job in one of Denmark's leading international development organisations working to put the world's most vulnerable children and young people on the agenda and fighting for the rights of girls and young women; does that sound exciting to you?

Who are we?
PlanBørnefonden is part of Plan International, which is an NGO that works in over 70 countries. We believe that children and young people can lead the way and contribute to creating a more equal and sustainable world that celebrates diversity and respects everyone, regardless of gender. Our programme department works with a wide range of projects to achieve these goals, covering themes such as water, sanitation and hygiene, youth economic empowerment, education, early childhood development, climate resilience, gender transformation, emergency response, and more. We are now looking for two students to join the team.

You will be part of a humanitarian and development organisation with high professionalism and passionate colleagues in an informal working environment with a strong social commitment.

About the job
PlanBørnefonden is looking for two Student Assistants to support the general work in the Programme Department, which primarily consists of developing and running our development and humanitarian programme efforts in collaboration with colleagues and partners in Africa and the Middle East.

1) French speaking Student Assistant to Strategic Partnership
You will primarily support the Team working with our Strategic Partnership with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2022-2025. Your tasks will, among other things, be to:

  • Ensure quality translation of programme documents (from English to French) and incoming narrative reports (from French to English).
  • Facilitate the dissemination of results and impact from our activities in the programme countries, notably in Francophone West Africa. Coordinate selected tasks, such as selecting and translating interesting quotes, or small analyses for communication purposes.
  • Play a role in meetings and online workshops typically involving professional exchange and knowledge sharing between both French and English speakers.
  • Support for various administrative and practical tasks such as coordinating meetings, planning, and proofreading etc.

A high level of French is a prerequisite. If you have experience translating texts to and from French and quality assuring these, this is a clear advantage.

2) Student Assistant to the Programme Department
You will support the programme department in the daily operations. Your tasks will among other things, be to:

  • Support programme development, application processes, programme implementation and dissemination of experiences and results.
  • Coordinate selected tasks such as minor analyses for use in the programme work.
  • Continuous updating of e.g. the department's travel activities, status of the project portfolio, the department's annual goals, etc.
  • Various administrative and practical tasks such as coordination of meetings and seminars, delegations from/to foreign countries, translation, proofreading, etc.

Who are you?
You have an interest in and possibly experience with development work. We imagine that you are on a relevant higher education programme, e.g. International Business & Politics, Political Science, Development Studies, Development Economics, Public Health, Business administration and sociology or similar. You are proficient in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and have tried using AI for work-related/academic purposes. A good command of English is also a prerequisite, as it is very much our daily working language at PlanBørnefonden.

In addition, we expect:

  • That you can solve tasks independently and focus on quality and deadlines, whether they are professional, administrative, or practical tasks.
  • That you have good communication skills and patience with processes that can take time.
  • That you are engaged in your studies and deliver good results.
  • That you have at least 2 years left of your studies.
  • That you are proactive, open to try and learn new things and take ownership of ad-hoc tasks.

What do we offer?
As our Student Assistant, you will have the opportunity to start your career in one of Denmark's largest privately funded children's rights organisations with a large international focus and network.

You will be part of our office on Mimersgade in Copenhagen, where we collaborate across departments and draw energy from being an organisation that embraces diversity - both professionally and socially. You'll experience an informal atmosphere and we are a social workplace where you'll quickly fall into conversation with your colleagues at the coffee machine, in the Friday bar or at other social events. As a student, you will also become part of our internal student network that meets regularly.

We offer approximately 15 hours per week with flexibility to fit in both work and study.

Start date: August 2024.
