R&D scientist or engineer for optical imaging systems

Foss Analytical A/S

FOSS Analytical A/S is looking for a talented and highly skilled optical engineer or physicist with a strong background in computer vision to drive the development of our future vision solutions for food analysis.

This is an exciting opportunity, as you will have a significant influence on FOSS’ future innovation opportunities. In a global world with a growing population, there is an ever-increasing demand for safer food and less food waste. Our solutions provide accurate measurements and analytics insights to optimize food production from raw materials to finished products, and ultimately a better global usage of limited resources.

Primary tasks
Your responsibility will be to develop and implement current and future optical hardware platforms - taking the technology from the lab environment to full-scale production. Specifically, you will focus on the computer vision part of our solutions. The responsibility includes the technical overview of the complete system from sample to final result and the interfaces to the rest of the instrument. A key to succeeding is the ability to plan, coordinate and communicate results to the project members and stakeholders.

Your tasks will span experimental work, measurements, simulations and optical design. This is done in close collaboration with data scientists, mechanical and electrical engineers, software developers, university partners and other departments outside R&D.
Your daily work will be at the FOSS Innovation Center in Hillerød, Denmark.

About you
You have a M.Sc. degree in engineering, physics or similar and most likely a Ph.D. You have proven results working with optics and imaging, and preferably experience with several of the following topics:

  • Computer vision hardware and design of optical systems including optics, sensors and illumination
  • Planning and executing experiments to validate designs and new ideas in laboratory set-ups and early prototypes
  • Modelling of optical imaging systems including camera objectives and illumination in Ansys OpticStudio (Zemax) or similar optical design software
  • Data analysis in e.g. Python or MatLab and knowledge of common computer vision libraries and developing calibration methods for computer vision systems
  • Instrument development and experience or interest in project management
  • Defining specifications for the optical systems as input to the selection of suppliers

As a person you are structured and self-driven when part of a strong team. You are curious about new problems and thrive on solving difficult tasks. Your record of accomplishments shows an ability to understand complex systems and to work systematically with troubleshooting incl. designing and performing experiments. Further, you are open-minded and want to succeed as a team and help your colleagues. If you recognize yourself in the above description, we look forward to hearing from you.

We offer
We offer a motivating job in an international, dynamic, and innovative organization. We are market leaders within our field and very proud of the results we deliver. Innovation is the foundation for FOSS´ success and we therefore have a strong focus on R&D. FOSS is small enough for you to get high influence in the job, and big enough for career development. The daily work takes place in an innovative and cross-disciplinary environment offering exciting tasks and the possibility to learn new things every day.

You will be become part of X-ray and LIBS teams in the Technology department of R&D. The team is responsible for innovation, development and support of the measuring systems of FOSS’ product based on laser induced breakdown spectroscopy, X-ray or computer vision technology. Together, the teams in Technology hold a high level of experience and competence within optics, physics, electronics, biochemistry and microbiology. We strive to deliver solutions performing to the edge the technology with world leading relation between performance, cost, footprint and reliability. We are open-minded to new ideas and have an informal working culture.

Application
