Student Assistant – Afghan Diaspora Engagement (ADE)

Dansk Flygtningehjælp

Student Assistant – Afghan Diaspora Engagement (ADE)

Are you motivated by the possibility of working in one of the largest humanitarian organisations worldwide and becoming part of a global organisation with a strong drive for assisting and protecting displaced people and empower them towards a better future? Do you want to join a dynamic team dedicated to strengthening the role of diaspora organisations in humanitarian settings? Are you interested in the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan?

Who are we?
The Diaspora Programme is implemented by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC)’s Localization Unit. As part of DRC localization efforts, the diasporas are considered as a part of the civil society actors of the countries and communities in which they have their roots and connections.

Since 2010, DRC has been working with diaspora groups as transnational civil society actors. Engagement with diaspora is based on a recognition of the significant role they play for people and communities in countries of origin (or heritage), for refugees and migrants in transit, and for newly arrived refugees and migrants in countries of residence, and, consequently, their potential for improving the situation for many of those affected by conflict and displacement.

About the job
Our Afghan Diaspora Engagement (ADE) project builds on our support to the Afghan diaspora in Europe in the last six years, which included several research, regular webinars and workshops, two European conferences, professional training on advocacy and targeted financial and technical support to Afghan diaspora women for advocacy.

We are looking for a Student Assistant to provide support with admin, finance, logistics, and communication tasks for ADE. The job will include support to events, capacity development activities such as training and workshops, as well as technical and financial support to diaspora organization partners. Ad-hoc support to the unit and other projects is expected. The student will work closely with a Project Coordinator and a Project Officer.

The tasks will include, but not be limited to:

Supporting events/capacity strengthening activities:

  • Support administrative tasks related to planning and follow-up of events
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) tasks
  • Occasionally attend events with diaspora partners, both online and in person, and provide logistical support
  • Support with communications tasks via the DRC website, email campaigns, Facebook, and SMS services

Support daily administration of the project team and Diaspora Programme

  • Support the team with processing payments and reimbursement
  • Manage calendars and contact lists
  • Other ad-hoc administrative support when required

About you
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have a strong desire to support people affected by conflict and displacement and to be service minded in your way of working. We also expect you to be well-organized, to have strong communication skills, be able to work independently as well as within a team and handle challenges in a constructive way. All employees should master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence and Demonstrating integrity. Moreover, we also expect the following:

  • Experience with office-related tools and software (Outlook, Excel, etc.)
  • Strong intercultural competencies and a good communicator.
  • Responsible, independent, and service-minded with a positive attitude.
  • Desire to be part of a diverse, dynamic, and busy team.

Desirable

  • Experience working with capacity strengthening of small civil society organizations/volunteer associations is an advantage.
