Your role and responsibilities
Execution of this Thesis work will be done within ABB Process Control Platform (PCP), a unit within ABB’s business area Process Automation. PCP develops automation products - hardware and software - for monitoring, process control and optimization. We have automation products for all kind of industries. Within PCP, we would like to get help with investigating boundaries for our extended Software Bill Of Material (SBOM) as well as making a proof-of-concept implementation of our extended SBOM within our organization that meets the US governments requirements, internally decided supported standards requirements as well as our internal need for traceability and configuration management. Details: • Period: TBD • Number of credits: 30 ECTS • Number of students for this thesis work: 1 or 2 • Location: Mostly on site – Malmö, Sweden We are looking for a thesis worker(s) that would like to investigate and propose a solution to a standardized Usage of Software Bill Of Material (SBOM) integrated on our Azure DevOps environment that fulfils both external requirements, e.g. IEC 62443 etc., as well as internal requirements need for documentation and identification of an artifact from inception to until “end of life” of a product or component. This thesis will focus on ABB System 800xA but should be generic enough to be able to be implemented on any of our customer systems. A Prof-of-concept implementation is expected to be part of the thesis work. Some research questions to consider as input: • Examine what the external requirements (standards) demands in form of documentation are for released configuration items (CI’s). • Investigate what the internal demands on documentation of an artifact during the Lifecyle of the CI. • Suggest best fit for implementation within ABB System 800xA, use existing standardized SBOM formats for documenting a Extended SBOM or custom implementation.
