Your role and responsibilities
Are you interested in working with advanced technology and contributing to efficiency in the mining industry? ABB is now looking for a driven student for a unique thesis work that aims to develop a video analysis model to facilitate the assessment of overfilling in a mill. The work will include a close collaboration with our partner Boliden, where you as a student will have the opportunity to broaden your network in the mining business and the chance to test your work in a real process environment. About the project: The work involves evaluating the method and training a video analysis model with the goal of optimizing the feed to a mill to maximize production without risking overfilling. Currently, there is no way to control overfilling, leading to conservative operations and unused capacity. • Problem statement • Define factors that affect the mill's current operation • Collect and extract data • Evaluate different methods • Test the model on training data and evaluate performance • Fine-tune parameters according to evaluation results • Apply the model and analyze live video streams Details: • Period: January to June • Number of credits: 30 • Number of students for this thesis work: 1 • Location: ABB Umeå Nygatan 25
Qualifications for the role
- Studying a Master of Science in Engineering with a thesis work of 30 credits
- Has knowledge and interest in video analysis, machine learning, AI.
- Is analytical, meticulous and has an interest in process optimization.
