Emergency + CCCM Intern

Do you want to experience what it is like to work for Denmark’s largest humanitarian NGO? Then apply for our DRC Emergency Unit intern position starting February 2025.

Who are we?

The Emergency Unit (EMU) provides emergency support to operations and sits within the department of Strategy, Programme and Learning at DRC HQ. The EMU at HQ comprises of the Head of Emergencies (head of unit), oone Global Emergency Coordinators, one Global Emergency Advisor and two Access/Hard-to-Reach Advisors. The Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) has a single global sector lead. The EMU also manages a team of 8-12 roving emergency specialists (EMPACT).

About the internship

The intern will become part of the Emergency Unit and will assist their colleagues with the various CCCM (70%) and emergency (30%) related tasks, including our team of roving emergency specialists (EMPACT).

The tasks will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Assisting in the development of CCCM networking events including training events and workshops
  • Supporting the development of global documents on CCCM activities including case studies and guidance on best practice
  • Developing and updating the Emergency Platform website and social media particularly our CCCM material
  • Supporting the preparation and facilitation of emergency response and camp management trainings, both in-person and online
  • Supporting DRC country operations with tasks such as emergency funding annual reports and new funding requests
  • Supporting monthly administrative and financial tasks using excel and our internal ERP system
  • Ad hoc administrative tasks including supporting recruitment processes
  • Support to the strategic initiative of ‘Hard to Reach’ through review of documents, inputs to policies or tools, mapping of processes or actors etc.
  • Possibility of developing a project defined according to the intern’s competencies and interests, which contributes to the development needs of the Emergency Unit/CCCM sector.

About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to commit to the values and Code of Conduct of the Danish Refugee Council, to be able to work independently and proactively and to handle challenges in a constructive way, and to be able to work as part of a team. We also expect you to have an interest in and flair for communication and administrative asks including financial management, and to be open-minded and flexible towards the different tasks assigned to you.

All employees and interns in DRC should master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence and Demonstrating integrity.

To apply for the internship, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Your field of study is not paramount, but it will most likely be within the social sciences and/or international affairs
  • Confirm that you have the required permits to work and live in Denmark
  • Have an interest in international affairs and humanitarian assistance, in particular CCCM operations
  • Have completed a minimum of two years of higher education
  • Be fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Have the ability to navigate in a challenging environment and handle a wide range of complex tasks.

It is a requirement that you are enrolled in a university in order to be considered for the internship.

We offer
Contract length: 4-6 months subject to study requirements and further dialogue

Workplace: DRC Headquarters located Borgergade 10, Copenhagen

Start date: early February 2024. We can be flexible on the start date.

Working hours: Approximately 30 hours per week, subject to study requirements and further dialogue. We offer flexibility when you have study obligations next to the internship.

The internship is not paid but we offer:

  • 2,08 (unpaid) vacation days per month. The days can either be spent as you earn them or be accumulated.
  • Free lunch in our canteen (subject to our canteen being open)
  • Free participation in our staff party (subject to dates)

Please note that if you do not have the right to work in Denmark (through nationality or existing work visa), you will need to apply for it if selected for the internship. This process can take up to three months from initiating the process. You can read more here.
