Internship with the Global Foundations Unit

DRC - Dansk Flygtningehjælp

Danish language skills (written and spoken) are required for this position.

Are you looking for an internship opportunity with one of the world’s largest NGOs? If the answer is yes, you could be one of our new interns for the spring semester.

Who are we?
Danish Refugee Council (DRC) ranks as one of the best NGOs in the world, doing humanitarian work in 40 countries around the globe. DRC projects are often funded or co-funded through partnerships with leading Global and Danish foundations. Our partnerships are growing in numbers and size, and we have ambitions to develop this area further with Danish and international foundations. The Global Foundations Unit (GFU) is responsible for strengthening DRC’s capacity to maintain and grow these relationships and increase fundraising efforts, and we’re now looking for an intern interested in supporting and assisting us in the process.

About the GFU internship
As the GFU intern, you will join a newly established and dynamic team at the DRC HQ, actively collaborating with units across the organization. In this role, you will take on your own set of responsibilities while also contributing to critical support functions. These will include conducting research and analysis on donor trends, engaging in partnership development with Danish and international foundations, and assisting in the coordination of key projects. Your internship with the GFU team will focus on the following main areas:

  • Research and mapping of Danish and international foundations as well as support in the due diligence process.
  • Help through producing fundraising material and outreach.
  • Provide grant management support and administration as required.
  • Help maintain internal communication sites and develop structures on workspaces.
  • Helping to organise meetings and appointments as well as produce and distribute minutes of meetings.
  • Providing inputs and supporting the development of external products such as presentations.

Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to delve into various learning opportunities such as courses or presentations relevant to each unit and the broader organization. We offer flexibility in the type of tasks, so you also have the possibility to influence your internship, subject to what is relevant to your study programme.

About you
To be successful in these roles we expect you to be flexible, eager to learn and proactive. All employees and interns at DRC should master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence and Demonstrating integrity. The GFU intern should also be able to meet the following requirements:

  • Interest in learning more about working in an international NGO.
  • Have an interest in donor relations, fundraising, donor engagement, donor compliance and/or how NGOs fund their operations.
  • Be effective in the use of Office 365.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Danish and English is required since you’ll be working with both Danish foundations as well as international foundations.
  • Be able to work independent and systematically with a good structure and a focus on high quality, solving tasks in your area of responsibility.

It is a requirement that you are enrolled in a university to be considered for the internships. Therefore, applicants should be pursuing a relevant graduate level degree, such as International Relations, Political Science, Development Studies or other related social science studies.

We offer
Contract length: 4-6 months subject to study requirements and further dialogue.

Workplace: DRC Headquarters located at Borgergade 10, Copenhagen.

Start date: Mid-January or start February. We can be flexible on the start date.

Working hours: Approximately 30 hours per week, subject to study requirements and further dialogue. We offer flexibility when you have study obligations next to the internship.

The internship is unpaid, but instead we offer:

  • 2 - unpaid - vacation days per month. The days can either be spent as you earn them or be accumulated.
  • Free lunch in our canteen (subject to our canteen being open).

Application process

All applicants must send a cover letter, an updated CV in Danish or English as well as documentation that you are enrolled in a university.

If you are applying for more than one internship with DRC, please indicate so in your cover letter. Apply online on our Current Vacancies page at drc.ngo.

Closing date for applications: December 2, 2024. We expect to conduct interviews at the beginning of December in our headquarters at Borgergade 10 or via Teams.
