At the Department of Communication and Psychology, the Faculty of Humanities, Aalborg University, a position as Assistant Professor in Personality Psychology will be open for appointment as of 1st of March or as soon as possible thereafter. The selected candidate will conduct research and teaching within at least one of the following areas:

  • Personality psychology
  • Social psychology
  • Educational psychology
The appointment will be a fixed-term (4 years), full-time position, which will include both research and teaching activities.

Jobbeskrivelse
During the employment as an Assistant Professor, the selected candidate will be expected to:

  • Deliver high quality teaching, supervision, and associated examination, as required across the range of modules offered on the psychology programme within areas such as: personality psychology, educational psychology and quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Undertake research and publish research output of an internationally recognized quality
  • Engage in external research networks and collaborations
  • Engage in knowledge collaboration within the portfolio of the position
  • Participate positively and constructively in the day-to-day activities of the Department of Communication and Psychology.

In terms of research, the position includes research within the project“Bedst for Os”(Better for Us):https://bedstforos.dk/ Bedst for Os is a large research project aimed at investigating cross-sectoral collaboration concerning children and young people experiencing mental health challenges. In relation to this position, the research tasks will focus on the role of municipalities, particularly the Educational Psychological Counseling Service(in Danish, Pædagogisk Psykologisk Rådgivning or PPR), in cross-sectoral collaboration. Experience with conducting questionnaire-based surveys and familiarity with quantitative methods will be an advantage.

In relation to research, applicants should document:

  • Experience, skills and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to produce high quality research outputs and publish in international journals
  • A personal research plan which is consistent with the Department of Communication and Psychology research strategy and demonstrates the potential to develop new research projects
  • Experience, skills and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to develop external and/or international networks and collaborations
  • Experience, skills and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to engage in activities with actors outside academia to enhance the impact of research.

In relation to teaching, applicants should document:

  • Experience, skills and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to deliver high quality teaching, using a range of pedagogical approaches including problem-based learning, project supervision, group work, interactive seminars and lectures
  • Ability to teach, supervise, and assess written and oral performances in Danish.
  • Given the international elements in some of the Danish degree programmes, the successful applicant must be able to teach in English as well as Danish. International applicants are expected to learn Danish within a foreseeable timeframe.
  • Aalborg University works with a problem-based learning approach(PBL) and documented experience with this learning approach will be welcome but is not a prerequisite.

In relation to general competences, applicants should also:

  • Document experience, skills or achievements which demonstrate the ability or potential to work collaboratively with colleagues, participate fully in the day-to-day activities of the Department and research group, and encourage foster a positive and collegial working environment
  • Demonstrate great written and oral communication skills.

The position will primarily be attached to the section Psychology of Culture, Humanity and Education PSYCHÉ), which is an interdisciplinary section that addresses current social and psychological problems and phenomena from a human science, cultural, and educational perspective.

Applicants should be able to work together with others and be capable of creating and sustaining relations with other researchers in an international research environment. Both national and international research networks will be advantageous. Applicants need to be willing to participate actively in all aspects of daily work in the Department. A position as assistant professor is a fixed-term training position which includes an obligation to carry out research and teaching activities. To a limited extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University. The appointment includes a requirement to attend a course in university pedagogy for assistant professors organised by the University.

The employment as assistant professor must not exceed a total period of four years at the same institution(a maximum of six years at assistant professor level at AAU and a maximum of eight years at assistant professor level in Denmark).

Qualification requirements
Applicants for the assistant professorship are required to possess academic qualifications; for example a PhD degree or similar academic qualifications.

Assessment
The assessment of candidates for the position will be carried out by qualified experts.
Shortlisting will be applied. This means that after the application deadline, the head of the department, with the assistance of the hiring committee, will select the applicants to be assessed. All applicants will be informed whether they have been shortlisted for assessment or not.

When the hiring process is completed, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Løn og ansættelsesvilkår
The employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities(the Appointment Order) and the Ministerial Order on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary and terms of employment are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the state(AC collective agreement)(only in Danish) and circular concerning protocol on certain terms of employment of academic staff at universities(only in Danish).
