R&D Team Lead
Your role and responsibilities
ABB Corporate Research Center in Sweden is located in Västerås, about 100 kilometers west of Stockholm. Together with our colleagues in other R&D centers we develop technologies for future products and services for ABB's core businesses. In a collaboration with Mälardalen University (MDU) we offer a thesis project focusing on digital twins for optimization of cyber-physical systems with dewatering of underground mines as the main use case. The goal of this project is to study how a Digital Twin (DT) of a Cyber-Physical system can be used to optimize its performance. A mine dewatering system is a cyber-physical system, composed of sensors, actuators, large electromechanical elements (pumps) and control (computerised) devices connected over a network infrastructure. Using the DT we will be able to predict and schedule the operation of the dewatering CPS to minimize operation cost. Details: • Start in January/February 2025 for a duration of 5 months • Number of credits: 30 ECTS • Number of students: 1 • Location: On site at ABB Corporate Research in Västerås or at MDU Objective: The roadmap of the project is as follows: • Guided literature review • Design of Digital Twin for underground mine water pumping • Implementation of current scheduling approach • Derivation and simulation of optimal control strategy The project has the potential to lead to conference publication.
