Rapid Fabrication Facilities Student Helper at The Institute Mechanical and Electrical Engineering The Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IME), part of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark, offers a part-time position (15.02.2025 – 30.06.2026) as a Student Helper for its Rapid Fabrication Facilities, in direct correlation with both teaching and manufacturing activities.
The Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering is located in the inspiring building of Alsion that is place of residence for a number of enterprises in the Science Park: South Jutland Symphony Orchestra and the concert hall of Alsion. Thus, the university has close bonds to the industrial as well as the cultural environment of Sønderborg.
In line with a new strategic track of the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the institute is seeking to expand its prototyping facilities to offer a full reverse engineering package, including modern 3D scanning and 3D printing among classic prototyping methods. The facilities should be utilized optimally by a variety of courses, including both lecture-based courses and projects, and the Student Helper should adjust to the varied demands this brings.
Alongside mechanical competences, the employee is expected to have insight in and not limited to basic embedded programming and electronics, as maintaining and expanding the features of pre-existent machinery shall be a common task. IME is involved in a variety of mechatronics projects, and fundamental knowledge of all the above areas of expertise becomes essential in such a broad engineering landscape.
Assignments of the Student Helper at IME include:
•Installing and maintaining rapid-prototyping facilities•Analysis and evaluation of mechanical designs in the pre-production phase•Assisting with the implementation of reverse engineering into the education programmes at IME
The following qualifications and skills are strong assets
•Experience with teaching CAD and Mechanical Design (knowledge in Siemens NX preferred)
•Experience with rapid-prototyping techniques (3D printing - FFF, VPP and L-PBF), and modern reverse engineering methods (3D scanning)
•Experience interacting with student projects at various academic levels
•Experience within logistics and stock management

Please note, the selected candidate as Student Assistant or Academic Supervisor must be enrolled as student at SDU.
Employment shall take place in accordance with the framework agreement between the Ministry of Finance and SUL (National Union for Student Teachers in Government Service).
In case you have not yet had an examination at SDU, the enrollment confirmation instead of the exam transcript must be annexed your application.
