Our team and mission
The Accounting Division at ESA oversees Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting and Fixed Assets Accounting. We are responsible for defining, operating and controlling the Agency’s financial accounting system, as well as for the planning and coordination of the periodic and yearly closures. In addition, it is responsible for the preparation of periodic cost reports and the Agency’s annual Financial Statements in accordance with IPSAS accounting standards. We provide cost accounting services and ensure the quality, accuracy, consistency and completeness of all accounting and cost data (including cost allocation to programmes, projects and activities). Furthermore, we manage and control the financial and cost accounting master data. Acting as the main interface to the Audit Commission, we provide justification and evidence on accounting issues. Finall, we define the ESA-wide charging and pricing policies, establishing rates for peoplepower, facilities and services to be used for cost accounting purposes. We monitor and report on the evolution of peoplepower and facilities recharges, internal recharges and consumption of the commitment ceilings.

Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship
Over the past decade, ESA has focused on producing reliable, traceable and auditable financial data. With the development of new tools capable to handle and visualise a large amount of data, ESA now wishes to use these data for analysis and assessment. As an ESA Graduate Trainee, you will participate in the deep analysis of data, then determining the best way to represent it visually to managers and stakeholders. You will also be actively involved in the definition of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) associated to critical processes.

As an EGT, you will learn and develop the typical responsibilities of a Data Analyst. More specifically, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop and implement Power BI reports, data collection logics, data analytics and other strategies that optimise statistical efficiency and quality;
  • Validate and interpret data, analyse results using statistical techniques and provide operational reports;
  • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems;
  • Filter and “clean” data;
  • Work with management to prioritise business and information needs.

Education
You should have just completed, or be in the final year of your master’s degree in computer/data science.

Additional requirements
You should have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be able to work in a multicultural environment, both independently and as part of a team. Previous experience of working in international teams can be considered an asset. Your motivation, overall professional perspective and career goals will also be explored during the later stages of the selection process.

You should also have a solid technical knowledge of Microsoft Power BI data visualisation tools.
