This is a unique opportunity to engage in a collaborative role between the Unit for Health Promotion Research at the Department of Public Health, SDU, and the University Hospital of Southern Denmark in Esbjerg.
The successful candidate will split his/her time between conducting research and teaching at SDU, Campus Esbjerg (four days per week) and providing consultancy and supervision to medical doctors and hospital staff conducting quantitative health research at the hospital’s research department (one day per week).
Your Role and Responsibilities
As a professor, you will play a pivotal role in advancing research and education in public health and medicine while fostering cross-sectoral collaborations between SDU, the hospital, and external partners. You will be expected to contribute to the development of the university’s educational programs in both Public Health and in Medicine, maintaining high academic and didactic standards. Your contributions will be instrumental in strengthening both institutions' research and educational environments and enhancing international collaborations.
You will be expected to:
- Conduct and publish internationally competitive research in epidemiology, applied biostatistics, and public health.
- Provide high-quality supervision and capacity building in quantitative health research at both SDU and University Hospital South Denmark.
- Establish and lead collaborative research initiatives, strengthening cross-sectoral partnerships.
- Secure external funding to support research activities and projects.
- Develop and deliver teaching and planning of educational programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels in Public Health as well as in Medicine.
- Supervise PhD students and clinical researchers
- Disseminate research findings to both academic audiences and the broader public.

The Unit for Health Promotion Research focuses on social determinants of health, health inequalities, health-promoting interventions, disease prevention, and health policy.
Required Qualifications
- A PhD degree in epidemiology, applied biostatistics, public health, medicine or a closely related field.
- A strong research record demonstrated by research projects and international peer-reviewed publications of relevance to the position.
- Excellent teaching skills and mentoring skills, preferably in Public Health or in Medicine.
- A high level of experience with project development, funding applications and project management
- A demonstrated ability to engage in collaborative, cross-sectoral research
- Excellent written and spoken skills in both Danish and English.
Further assets of potential candidates are:
- Experience with methodological supervision of clinical researchers from diverse fields.
- Experience working with practice-oriented research partners.
