Simulation of Bearings in Large Marine Engines
Would you like to play a role in the crucial work of reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases towards a carbon-neutral future using cutting-edge and innovative technology? Our Research and Development department, “Structure & Dynamics”, is looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer with a strong theoretical knowledge and the ability to put theory into practice.

MAN Energy Solutions develop, design, test and service two-stroke engines that use the least possible fuel and emit the fewest possible harmful particles. You will find our solutions on large ships all over the world as 50% of world trade is powered by engines from MAN Energy Solutions - Your contribution will have an impact.

Please note that this position is specifically for individuals enrolled in an industry master’s program.

You will play an important role in:
You will be working on the calculation, design and development of journal bearings in large two-stroke engines. There is a strong mutual influence between bearings, engine structure, crankshaft dynamics, and bearing material properties. Therefore, the work will be conducted in close cooperation with specialists within these fields.

The work includes, but is not limited to:

  • Simulation of journal bearings in large 2-stroke engines using in-house state-of-the-art EHD software.
  • Investigate parametric design modifications for new bearing designs.
  • Contribute to the development and scripting of automation tools in Python to enhance simulation workflows.

We imagine that you:
To fill this important role, we expect that you are/have:

  • Interest and qualification in fluid film bearings
  • Interest in structural mechanics
  • Experienced in scripting/programming utilizing Python
  • Want to assist the department in solving everyday problems related to bearing performance

This position is specifically for individuals enrolled in an industry master’s program. The industry master is a 4-year part-time master’s degree that combines academic studies with practical work experience in the industry, allowing you to earn a salary while studying. To be eligible, you must be enrolled in a master’s program and able to work at least 25 hours per week. Working hours will be structured to align with your educational schedule.

We are world-leading analysis and design specialists within mechanical design of 2-stroke engines dedicated to carbon-neutral transport. In the Structure & Dynamics department, we are responsible for the new design and development of the engine structure, crankshaft, connecting rod, and bearings. We also have specialists working with engine dynamics, torsional vibration, and structural vibration. As a member of our team, you will be working with 13 inspiring and highly skilled research engineers in an open and interdisciplinary environment.
