Research Assistant in experimental food microbiology - DTU Food

We are seeking a new colleague, who is curious, loves new challenges and is interested in food microbiology, as we aim to help the industry and authorities safeguarding our food supply while also making it more sustainable.
We are seeking a new colleague to join us in the Research Group for Food Microbiology and Hygiene at The National Food Institute (DTU Food, www.food.dtu.dk ) to work on collaborative projects with industry partners and other research institutes to develop sustainable processes for foods. The position is for 1 year.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You will be responsible for conducting challenge tests with pathogenic bacteria in food products to determine their ability to grow as a function of product characteristics and environmental conditions. You will also be involved in the testing of different UV-C doses and wavelengths on the viability of microorganisms in different food matrices. The experimental work will involve laboratory and pilot scale work and collaborations with our industry partners. An important part of your work will involve analysis of the collected data to describe the kinetics of growth or inactivation. Finally, you will be responsible for preparing reports, presentations and manuscripts for publication in close collaboration with the rest of our team.

We expect you to have a background in food science and technology, biotechnology, or similar. You like to work in the laboratory and preferably have some practical experience in experimental work with pilot equipment. You are not afraid of working with numbers.

You must be able to work both independently and in collaboration with other researchers and our industry partner, as well as master oral and written English. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates wishing to expand their skills and research experience.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience with experimental microbiological work
  • Experience in molecular biology, microscopy, and biochemical assays
  • Experience in quantitative data analysis
  • Structured and skilled in planning as well as solution-oriented.
  • An aptitude for scientific writing.

As a formal qualification, you must have a master’s degree in engineering or equivalent.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
The period of employment is 1 year.
