Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)
Join DTU as a Lab Technician to support research on carbohydrate-active enzymes from gut bacteria. Responsibilities include enzyme assays, student guidance, lab maintenance, and teaching. Ideal candidates are organized, independent, and collaborative. Enjoy a flexible, international research environment.
We are seeking a highly motivated Lab Technician to join our dynamic research group at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), focusing on discovery and applications of carbohydrate-active enzymes from the human gut bacterial community (Microbiota). We study the molecular interactions of gut bacteria and their enzymes with dietary fibres, to ultimately promote health and counter disease. If you enjoy a variety of tasks in the lab and thrive in an independent and flexible work environment, we would love to hear from you!
The job
As a lab technician in our team, you will play a key role in supporting cutting-edge research. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Conducting molecular biology tasks (cloning and mutagenesis), producing and purifying recombinant proteins (using automated Äkta chromatographs), and performing biochemical analyses (colorimetric, chromatographic, HPLC-based) in close collaboration with researchers on various projects
- Setting up and optimising crystallisation for protein X-ray structure determination and applying anaerobic microbiology techniques after training.
- Assisting and guiding students with setting up their experiments
- Ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratory through maintenance and troubleshooting tasks
- Taking part in teaching an experimental 3-week biochemistry course by managing and preparing laboratory exercises together with another laboratory technician in the department.
In addition, your work tasks will include:
- Procurement and acquisition of equipment, chemicals and reagents
- Training of students and new users
You will be part of the section's laboratory technician team (consisting of 7 laboratory technicians and trainees as well as a team leader). As part of the laboratory team, you also support the section's infrastructure, including safety (the occupational health and safety organization), coordination and preparation for experimental courses, responsibility for certain workflows, maintenance of laboratories, handling of chemical waste, and general facility management.
Our expectations of you
We are looking for a candidate who:
- Has a laboratory technician background preferably with experience with enzymatic assays
- Has an organized, structured approach, with a strong dedication to delivering high-quality data
- Is self-motivated, independent, and enjoys taking initiative
- Is comfortable with a mix of hands-on lab work and some desk work
- Thrives in a dynamic environment with varied tasks and responsibilities
- Has good communication skills and enjoys collaborating with both students and researchers
