Shipping Trainee, Copenhagen
Dampskibsselskabet NORDEN A/S
At NORDEN, we believe in empowering maritime professionals at various stages in their careers by creating opportunities for learning and connection.
This two-year Shipping Trainee programme will place you in a global and widely connected environment in the maritime space. The objective is that you continue your career with NORDEN after the programme.
You will be working in our Copenhagen office, but you will not be doing the programme alone—this programme welcomes several Trainees across different offices.
The programme starts in September 2026.
What is in it for you
Throughout the structured programme, you will learn from our experienced shipping professionals and be assigned a manager and a mentor, ensuring that you are supported every step of the way.
- Your Manager is responsible for your overall well-being and development.
- Your Mentor will be guiding you in your day-to-day work and regularly check in to provide feedback and support your well-being, progress and aspirations.
You will contribute to a collaborative and forward-thinking environment with an international footprint. Our focus is on enabling individuals through trust, empowerment and a well-defined sense of belonging.
Quickly, you will be trusted to fix or operate your own vessels, contribute to the business and become an equally important member of the team.
What you bring
We look for Trainees who show curiosity, a willingness to acquire new skills and a grasp of commercial concepts. A motivation to grow with NORDEN is essential.
An approachable nature and problem-solving skills are also significant, as you will interact with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. Besides this, here is what we are looking for when you apply:
- You hold a bachelor’s degree – could be from anywhere in the world.
- You have the legal right to work in Denmark.
- You are able to communicate effectively in English.
What we offer
The Traineeship is a paid two-year, full-time programme tailored to pave the way for your career. You will join either the Operations or Chartering department. Your interests and skills will help decide where you will start your career with us.
With a strong track record of supporting Trainees and Interns worldwide, we are committed to giving you a professional, engaging and growth-focused experience.
As part of the two-year programme, you will enrol in the Danish Shipping Education and attend five one-week modules: four in Denmark and one in Brussels and Rotterdam.
NORDEN covers all educational and course-related expenses, including travel expenses.
The process
The recruitment process consists of one or two interviews. You will be asked to complete a behavioural and cognitive assessment before the first interview.
Apply now by uploading your CV, cover letter, describing your motivation for applying and your diplomas no later than 23 January 2026.
We will do our best to get back to you at least within ten working days after the application deadline, 23 January 2026.
