Postdoc in Nanospectroscopy at Department of Chemistry

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a 1-year position to commence 1st of March 2026. The project is part of the research project “DNA-stabilized silver nanoclusters as new emitters in the tissue transparent NIR-II region.”

Your job
The project focuses on the development of DNA-stabilized silver nanoclusters (DNA-AgNCs) as new fluorophores in the tissue transparent region of 1000 - 1700 nm (NIR II region). DNA-stabilized silver nanoclusters consist of small silver clusters (ranging from 2 to 100 atoms), encapsulated in DNA strands. You tasks will be the synthesis, purification, characterization and modification of promising new DNA-AgNCs.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

• You have a PhD in Chemistry
• You are highly experienced in the synthesis of DNA-AgNCs and their photophysical characterization
• You have an active interest in growing crystals of DNA-AgNCs
• Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
• Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

• Experience with writing manuscripts
• Experience with HPLC purification

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Chemistry, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories.

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed term period of one year. The starting date is 1st March 2026.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 34,000 DKK/approx. 4,560 EUR (November 2025 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 18.07 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2025.
