Process Development Engineer - DTU Chemical Engineering

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Process Development Engineer to join our team and play a key role in our innovative methanol synthesis pilot scale project. You will be at the forefront of developing and optimizing a sustainable process for CO2-to-methanol conversion.
The job
As our new Process Development Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end development and optimization of the methanol synthesis process at the pilot scale.
Your primary tasks will include:
- Catalyst Performance and Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive testing and characterization of catalysts (e.g., Cu/ZnO/Al2O3) to assess their activity, selectivity, and stability under high-pressure conditions.
- Process Optimization and Simulation: Utilize lab data and process simulation tools like Aspen+ to optimize reaction conditions and improve process efficiency.
- Reactor and Process Development: Contribute to the design and scale-up of pilot-scale reactors and modular process designs for cost-effective implementation.
- Advanced Analytical Methods: Develop and validate analytical techniques (GC, MS, HPLC) for detailed process monitoring and data interpretation.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Perform statistical analysis of experimental data, document findings in technical reports, and present results to internal and external stakeholders.
Our expectations of you
We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in chemical engineering and a passion for sustainable technology. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- A PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in material testing, catalyst characterization (BET, XRF, XRD, NH3-TPD, TEM), and performance evaluation.
- Hands-on experience with high-pressure reactor systems and process optimization.
- Proficiency in process simulation software, particularly Aspen+.
- Strong background in developing and validating advanced analytical and chromatographic methods.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional and international team environment.
- Scientific presentation skills, with a track record of publishing research in reputable journals.
- An analytical, adaptable, and problem-solving mindset.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). You are employed as an Academic Officer.
The position is a full-time position. Starting date is 1 April 2026 for a period of 3 years. (or according to mutual agreement).
The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus.
