Postdoc in ion channel research at Department of drug design and pharmacology

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a 10 month position with a start date of 1.3.2026.

Mechanistic basis for modulation of the sodium leak (NALCN) channelosome by G proteins.

We are an international team working on interdisciplinary approaches to study ion channel function and pharmacology with a focus on protein-protein interactions.We provide a competitive and inclusive environment.

Your job
In this project we strive to understand how the sodium leak (NALCN) channelosome is modulated by G proteins. Your tasks would be to employ a combination of electrophysiological, biochemical, molecular biology / protein engineering approaches to delineate the mechanism of action by which G proteins modulate NALCN currents in heterologous expression systems.
Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in pharmacy or biochemistry
  • You are highly experienced in electrophysiology, molecular biology, protein engineering, biochemistry
  • You have an active interest in laboratory organisation and making laboratory science more environmentally friendly
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Practical experience two-electrode voltage clamp and patch clamp electrophysiology, ion channel-related pharmacology, cloning, split intein-mediated protein splicing and Western blots
  • Practical experience in implementing electronic lab books and laboratory efficiency schemes such as the LEAF program
  • Co-authorship in leading peer-reviewed journals with at least one as (co-)first author
  • Invitations to speak at international meetings

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of drug design and pharmacology, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and facilities for electrophysiological and and pharmacological investigation of ion channels.

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are [timer] hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 10 months. The starting date is 1.3.2026.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 35,000 DKK/approx. 4,700 EUR (October 2021 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
