Postdoc in Spatial Evolutionary Microbiology at Globe Institute

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a 2-year position on generation and analysis of spatial gut microbiome data from vertebrate intestines to commence on February 1st, 2026. The researcher will conduct original research to address variation of spatial gut microbiome structure and functioning from an evolutionary point of view.

Our research
The AlberdiLab is a dynamic, interdisciplinary research group dedicated to understanding the eco-evolutionary relationships between gut microorganisms and their hosts. Driven by a strong collaborative spirit, we strive to develop innovative technologies for generating and analysing high-quality molecular data. We apply these tools to address fundamental questions about host–microbiota interactions and to translate this knowledge into practical applications in agriculture and biodiversity conservation.

Your job
Your tasks will include collection ofsamples from multiplevertebrate species, generation of spatial metagenomic data using the infrastructure available at the Globe Institute, and spatial analysis of microbial communities, to understand how fundamental spatial properties of gut microbiomes vary across vertebrate phylogeny.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in Biology, Biotechnology or similar.
  • You are highly experienced in generation and analysis of spatial omic data.
  • You have an active interest in addressing evolutionary questions related to vertebrates and their gut microbiomes.
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience in generating diverse omic data
  • Experience in analysing shotgun metagenomic data
  • Experience in using automated liquid handlers

The place of employment is at the Section for Hologenomics, Globe Institute (Øster Farimagsgade 5, 1353 Copenhagen K).

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 2 years. The starting date is on February 1st, 2026.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

    The further process
