Student Assistant to help with communication tasks at the Integrative Structural Biology cluster

Københavns Universitet (KU)

The Integrative Structural Biology cluster at the University of Copenhagen is looking for a student assistant to assist with communications tasks with effect from 15 September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. Average working hours will be 10 hours per week.

About us
This student assistant position is based at the Integrative Structural Biology cluster at the University of Copenhagen (ISBUC – www.isbuc.ku.dk). ISBUC is a prominent scientific network which promotes an integrative approach to structural biology at the University of Copenhagen. It is constituted by over 50 principal investigators and 150 junior researchers who are spread across 16 different departments in the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. The aim of ISBUC is to facilitate new interdisciplinary collaborations between researchers and departments and to raise the profile of structural biology within Denmark. Throughout the year, ISBUC organises numerous events and activities to facilitate knowledge sharing, collaboration, communication and facility access between its members. These include small and large scientific meetings, a website, an e-newsletter, and various MSc and PhD courses. We also support the Junior ISBUC network who have their own roster of events.

Tasks
The primary responsibilities of the student assistant are to assist with science communication tasks.

At ISBUC, we place great emphasis on raising the profile of structural biology through several science communication initiatives. Currently, this includes three key initiatives. In the first initiative, Structures of Life, we have established a partnership with several art collectives in order to produce state-of-the-art and scientifically accurate visualizations of biomolecules. The second initiative, the ISBUC LEGO Molecule Masters, involves the production of educational fact sheets about biomolecules, brought to life with hands-on instructions for building molecules out of LEGO. In the third initiative, Junior ISBUC hosts a stand each year at Kulturnat, and each year we develop hands-on materials and activities for the public.

The student assistant will assist with these ongoing projects while also assisting with day-to-day communication tasks, including:

  • Creating posters, banners and flyers for ISBUC events
  • Updating ISBUC’s SoMe accounts (X, Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • Updating ISBUC’s website (using a CMS)
  • Helping to prepare the ISBUC annual report
  • Helping to prepare the quarterly ISBUC newsletter
  • Ad-hoc assistance at events

Workload:
The position is for a period of 12 months. Varying working hours is to be expected, but the average working hours is 10 hours per week.

About You:
You are a student with an interest in communication. ISBUC is a hub for structural biology at UCPH. As such, it is beneficial to have interest in the field of molecular biology, although this is not a requirement for application.

  • You are outgoing and good with people
  • You are responsible, with good decision-making skills
  • You are self-motivated and adaptable
  • You are proficient in English. Speaking and/or understanding Danish is a plus

Terms of salary and employment
Employment conditions will be as HK Student in accordance with the The Collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Organisations of Public Employees – governmental institutions (the OAO-S collective agreement) and the Professional Agreement for clerical employees, laboratory technicians and it officers in the state. Your salary will be based on seniority.

The employment is conditioned on documentation for active enrolment at a University or similar.

The place of work is Section for Biomolecular Sciences, Department of Biology.
