DTU Electro invites applications for a 3-year PhD position on “Energy-efficient Receiver Design for Critical Communication Systems”. The PhD project is part of the IFD (Innovation Fund Denmark) project GreenCOM, which focusses on developing energy-efficient communication technologies including critical communications systems.

The goal of the project is to design, develop and optimize energy-efficient receiver design for critical applications. The novel solutions will be tested on selected GreenCOM applications.

You will conduct research on thephysical layer of critical communication systems using digital signal processing and simulating performance for optimization and testing for validation.

The project work on energy efficient receiver design and communication for critical communication systems involves collaboration with industrial partners.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The main purpose of this PhD project is to investigate, in a joint design, communication performance, latency and energy-efficiency in selected critical applications. In particular, the signal processing challenges in the receiver shall be optimized in a joint framework including coding.

The primary tasks will be:

  • Novel receiver design with focus on energy-efficiency, reliability and low latency
  • Working with accurate simulation of physical channels and channel estimation for critical applications
  • Investigate MIMO technology, e.g. for moving transceivers
  • Simulations and tests of the receiver design in selected test beds

You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see DTU's rules for the PhD education.
