Syddansk Universitet (SDU)

The Department of Culture and Language, Faculty of the Humanities, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, invites applications for a full-time tenured associate professorship in Cultural Studies.

The successful candidate will be expected to advance the field of critical cultural studies and cultural communication, and to develop externally funded research projects and research-based teaching in key subjects within the MA-program in Culture and Communication (Kultur og Formidling). This includes, for example, our mandatory courses in cultural communication, cultural politics, and cultural studies theories and analysis along with our courses in cultural analytical methods. The MA-program is Danish, but non-Danish faculty are allowed to teach in English until they have reached the necessary level of Danish (see below).

The Department of Culture and Language is home for appr. 200 employees, covering a wide range of subjects and research interests, including American Studies, Audiologopaedia, Business Language, Classical Studies, Communication, Comparative Literature, Culture, Danish, English, German, History, Middle East Studies and the Study of Religion. Our faculty is committed to interdisciplinary research and teaching, encouraging students to explore the intersections of language, culture, and society. They are actively involved in various research centres, groups, and networks, contributing to cutting-edge projects and publications.

The department's Cultural Studies researchers have a strong critical profile. This includes externally funded projects within feminist science and technology studies, cultural politics, critical cultural heritage studies, and research on technological developments, body politics, and forms of medicalization. We seek a candidate who, in their own scholarly efforts, can complement our existing work.

Experience in developing interdisciplinary courses and research projects will be considered an advantage for the successful candidate.
