Are you looking for an exciting internship opportunity with a large, global NGO - and are you interested in protection of refugees and displaced persons and their rights? Then you might be our new Intern for the Spring 2025 semester.

Who are we?
The Global Protection Unit (GPU) is situated in the Department of Strategy, Programme and Learning (SPL). The GPU leads and oversees DRC’s Protection work globally, amongst others through development and dissemination of policy, standards and guidance, protection programme quality assurance, technical field support and capacity building on protection policies, standards, guidance and tools, and advocacy efforts.

About the internship
The Intern will be a part of the GPU and support the Unit’s work on knowledge and information management, development, communication and dissemination of global Protection policy and guidance, and the delivery of thematic events and training.

Under the guidance of GPU colleagues, the intern will support 1) Knowledge, information management and

documentation (30%); 2) Contribute to the development and rollout of policies and guidance (30%); and 3) Contribute to preparation and delivery of thematic and learning events (40%).

The tasks will include, but will not be limited to:

Information and Knowledge Management

  • Information management, including analysis, surveys, desk reviews targeting protection colleagues
  • Maintain and support the GPU knowledge management, including repository of policies, standards, and guidance and the Protection Sector’s intranet and website page.

Development and Rollout of Protection Policies & Guidance

  • Develop and support GPU communication and rollout of protection policy & guidance efforts
  • Contribute to the development and/or rollout of Protection policy and guidance (e.g. Protection programme design guidance rollout, Centrality of Protection, and Age, Gender and Diversity Mainstreaming training materials).

Preparation and Delivery of Thematic & Learning Events

  • Support the development of webinars, training and meetings on Protection components, Centrality of Protection, and Age, Gender and Diversity Mainstreaming (AGDM)
  • Contribute to preparation and delivery of thematic learning events, incl. the 3-day annual DRC Global Protection Network Meeting
  • Coordinate and support GPU administrative tasks, including monthly meetings with the Regional Protection Coordinators.

About you

  • Be proactive, open-minded and flexible towards the different tasks assigned to you, including other ad hoc tasks, as required
  • Commit to the values and Code of Conduct of the Danish Refugee Council

All employees and interns in DRC should master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence and Demonstrating integrity. Moreover, we also expect the following:

  • That you are currently studying at BA or MA level
  • Interest in humanitarian work, forced displacement, human rights and protection work
  • Creative competencies and ability to think outside of the box, to identify and develop engaging and stimulating channels through which to communicate to different target groups
  • Analytical skills and ability to grasp and communicate abstract concepts.

It is a requirement that you are enrolled in a university in order to be considered for the internship.

We offer
Contract length: 4-6 months subject to study requirements and further dialogue

Workplace: DRC Headquarters located Borgergade 10, Copenhagen

Start date: Mid-January to early February 2025

Working hours: Approximately 30 hours per week, subject to study requirements and further dialogue. We offer flexibility when you have study obligations next to the internship.

The internship is not paid but we offer:

  • 2,08 (unpaid) vacation days per month. The days can either be spent as you earn them or be accumulated
  • Free lunch in our canteen (subject to our canteen being open)
  • Free participation in our winter/summer party (subject to dates)

Please note that if you do not have the right to work in Denmark (through nationality or existing work visa), you will need to apply for it yourself, should you be selected for the internship. This process can take up to three months from initiating the process. You can read more here.
