A position as Academic staff is available in the group of Professor Daniel Wüstner, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark. The position is to be filled by December 1st, 2024. The position is for three years with the possibility of an extension.
Work environment
The successful candidate will be part of the Wüstner group, which integrates quantitative fluorescence microscopy and bioimage informatics with biophysics and cell biology to study transport processes in living cells. We are part of the Danish Molecular Biomedical Imaging Center (DaMBIC; https://www.dambic.dk/) and the Nikon Center of Excellence in Microscopy at the University of Southern Denmark.
Work description
The selected candidate will be engaged in an ambitious project aimed at determining trafficking pathways for lipids and proteins in relation to cell signaling mechanisms and their alterations in human diseases. You will use a combination of confocal and STED microscopy, lifetime imaging and single molecule tracking to study such processes. Furthermore, the candidate will be engaged in collaborative projects and training of students in these microscopy techniques as well as in the associated image analysis.
Requirements
The applicant is expected to:
- have a PhD degree with a strong background in biochemistry, biophysics or bionanoscience.
- have good written and oral communication skills in English, since we offer an international working atmosphere and participation in international projects.
- be self-motivated, able to take responsibility and plan and perform work tasks independently.
- have extensive experience with state-of-the-art light microscopy methods, such as wide field and confocal microscopy, super-resolution microscopy but also fluorescence and UV-VIS spectroscopy. A particular strength will be experience with STED and MinFlux microscopy.
- have extensive experience in mammalian cell culture, and experience with advanced 3D cell systems and/or microfluidics is considered an advantage.
- have extensive experience with scripting for image analysis and automation in ImageJ, MatLab and/or Python.
- be highly motivated to support the work of the group and to contribute to the quality of a state-of-the-art microscopy facility.
