The research team led by Erik Hedegård at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark (Odense) invites applications for a PhD position under the 4+4 programme. The PhD subject will concern development of quantum chemical methods for transition metals with particular focus on metals embedded in into larger environments (e.g. proteins, enzymes, condensed phases or materials).
Qualifications
We are looking for outstanding and highly-motivated candidates who has completed a BSc. degree (180 ECTS) and have additional 60 ECTS completed on their master’s degree in chemistry, preferably with specialization in physical and theoretical chemistry. Experience with theory development and implementation of quantum mechanical methods is an advantage. The candidate will join a dynamic and curiosity-driven research group and is expected to work in close collaboration with other research teams both at the Department and internationally.
The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is one of four departments at the Faculty of Science, SDU and is located in Odense. The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is a department focused on basic research. We are happy to move beyond traditional disciplines and work to develop new technologies and sciences across physics, chemistry, pharmacy, mathematics, computer science and biology. The department’s research thus contributes to new knowledge and solutions with applications in the areas of climate, environment, energy, and health.
The Ph.D. candidate will be part of the Section for Chemistry and Pharmacy.
The appointment will be for a term of four years. The exact starting date is flexible but expected to be in the winter 2025. Funding for travel to conferences, workshops and PhD-schools is available.

Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three (students who have completed their MSc) or four years (students who have not yet completed their MSc)
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information on salary (only available in Danish) and taxation.
The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programe at the Universities (PhD order).
