Text Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in North Macedonia?

We offer:
A traineeship of up to 6 months within the Political Section of the EU Delegation to North Macedonia, starting on 1 March 2025.

Traineeship in the Political Section (POL):

The Political Section covers political affairs, both domestic and foreign as well as European Integration, Press and Information. It fulfils the duties of a classical diplomatic mission together with the additional role of preparing the country's integration into the European Union as well as public diplomacy. The specific assignment will involve support to the section's monitoring functions in the areas of rule of law and corruption prevention.

Main tasks:

  • Support the public diplomacy activities of the Delegation (meetings, public events, social media campaigns etc.) and contribution to reports;
  • Contribution to analysing and summarising reports;
  • Monitoring and reporting on political developments;
  • Following the implementation of the EU reforms followed by the section, in particular in the fields of justice and corruption, contributing to assessments and draft recommendations;
  • The selected candidate might be asked to perform other tasks, e.g. assisting in the preparation of high-level incoming visits from EU institutions.

We look for:
Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Master degree in International relations, or Political science, Law, Economics with some specialisation in European integration.
  • Linguistic skills: Thorough knowledge (capacity to draft precisely) in English. Knowledge of other EU languages is considered an asset. Knowledge of the language of the host country is an advantage.
  • Communication skills: Capacity to work and communicate clearly in an international diplomatic and multicultural environment.
  • Interpersonal skills: Teamwork. Coordination and communication skills.
  • Intellectual skills: Solid analytical capability as well as drafting and reporting skills. Rapid grasp of problems and capacity to identify issues and solutions.
  • Knowledge: A good understanding of the workings of the European Union, its foreign policy priorities. Some understanding of the political situation in the country and the region.

Important information to read before applying
Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.
Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable, based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
