Biostatistician at the Department of Clinical Epidemiology

Aarhus Universitet (AU)

The Department of Clinical Medicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as a biostatistician at the Department of Clinical Epidemiology as per 1st of February 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a permanent full-time position. Department of Clinical Epidemiology
We represent an ambitious department who wants to maintain our position as one of the leading international research departments within clinical epidemiology. Our mission is to improve clinical care by working in global partnerships to produce high-quality clinical epidemiological research, promote education, and translate research into clinical practice. Our catchphrase is “big data, big opportunities”, which corresponds with our access to the unique Danish clinical databases and national healthcare registries that provide the basis for our research. We collaborate nationally and internationally with other academic institutions, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and healthcare authorities. Ninety percent of the department’s funding is raised from contractual research and from various foundations. We publish approximately 250 scientific papers and numerous technical reports annually.

Department of Clinical Epidemiology is established as a joint research department between the Central Denmark Region, Aarhus University, and Aarhus University Hospital. The department is one of the largest epidemiology departments in Denmark with approx. 100 employees including 25 biostatisticians working with SAS programming. The additional staff comprises medical doctors, nurses, other healthcare professionals, administrative staff, and approx. 30 Ph.D. students.

You will be part of an international work environment and a department that delivers front line research within clinical epidemiology. The tone in the department is informal. We endeavor to help and support each other in solving tasks with quality as the keyword. The department encourages competence development through collaboration with colleagues, internal education programs, and visits to other research environments. Your job responsibilities
We want to recruit one person with skills in applied statistics and with experience in SAS programming. You will perform data management and statistical analyses in SAS for the research projects in the department. You will be part of the entire process from unprocessed register data to input and comments to reports and scientific papers, and in close collaboration and dialogue with our other staff. In this connection, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading researchers in epidemiology. You will work in an international research environment and apply statistical methods to healthcare data in a unique setting. Your qualifications
We envisage that you have the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or MSc in statistics or mathematics
  • Knowledge of various statistical methods and their application, combined with programming experience in the statistical software program SAS.
  • Experience with data management based on healthcare data and or other large datasets.
  • Interest in improving existing methods and implementing new techniques.
  • Interest in healthcare research.

Personal professional qualifications
We envisage that:

  • You are able to manage multiple tasks and projects both as a team member and independently.
  • You are able to prioritize your workload.
  • You have an eye for details.
  • You have the capacity to interface with clinicians and statisticians in charge of projects both in a national and international setting.
  • You can cope with deadlines and take pride in delivering a good product.
  • You are goal-oriented, quality-conscious, and service-minded.
  • You are interested in further developing your own professional qualifications.
  • Sparring with colleagues and collaborators should come natural to you.
