The overall purpose of the Operations Unit is to support and ensure an effective and efficient operation. The Operations Unit sets the framework, guides, and supports strategic engagement in countries and regions. It oversees and supports countries and regions in grant and project portfolio management and takes the lead on the strategic direction and operationalisation of localisation, national society development, branch development and youth engagement.
The Operations Unit sets the framework and provides support to the management of risks and security management. The Unit is responsible for line management of DRC’s operational set-up.
We are looking for someone who is:
- A strong coordinator and multi-tasker, able to support a unit consisting of three sub-teams.
- Interested in learning about operations in the humanitarian sector.
- Self-motivated and resourceful and able to gather, analyse and present information on a range of topics.
- Has a proactive attitude and is not afraid to seek out an identified issue and take the lead on fixing it.
You will join the Operations Unit at the office of the Danish Red Cross International Department in Copenhagen. Your role as a student assistant will be to support the entire unit with a wide range of tasks. You will work closely with the unit members and the rest of the International Department in a dynamic environment with a diverse group of colleagues including multiple other student assistants and a welcoming social atmosphere.
Your tasks:
You will carry out a combination of planned and ad hoc tasks including:
- Planning and carrying out small- and large-scale meetings including agenda planning, technical set-up, finding venue, note taking, coordination with attendants etc.
- System support related to project monitoring, especially in excel files and dashboard management.
- Analysing data from the country offices and using it for reports and graphic visualisations.
- Communication pieces for the intranet site, reports, and other documents.
- Research and information gathering for both internal and external use.
- Other ad hoc tasks as required e.g. obtaining manager signatures.
- Other cross-cutting student tasks for the whole department that all the student help in supporting.
Your profile
- You have an interest in development and humanitarian work.
- You have knowledge of the international political and humanitarian system and are keen to learn more about the humanitarian sector and Operations supported by the Danish Red Cross.
- You work well independently and in a team.
- You are resourceful, have an eye for detail and are good at systematising.
- You are proactive and solution oriented.
- You possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English (it is a bonus if you speak and write Danish too).
- You are a proficient user of the Microsoft Office package with a particular emphasis on excel.
- You are quick at learning new digital platforms (knowledge of PowerBi is valued highly as a bonus).
- You are good at visualising data with graphs, diagrams, and other models.
- You are enrolled at a Danish university, pursuing a relevant academic degree (bachelors or masters) in e.g. social or political science, business, development studies, communications, or similar.
- You have preferably completed your 4th semester and have a minimum of 2 years left of your degree.
We offer
In this position you will gain first-hand experience of what it is like to work in an international humanitarian organisation. You will learn about the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement and our work globally and will get real-world experience supporting humanitarian operations. Furthermore, you will receive ongoing supervision and support by your colleagues in the Operations unit. You will be an important part of the team and be treated as such. This position allows you to apply in practice the skills you have from your studies in a fast-paced and inspiring setting.
Practical Information
We would like you to start mid-January 2025 or soonest thereafter, and be working with us 15 hours a week. Salary and employment terms follow the collective bargaining agreement between the Danish Red Cross and HK/AC.
