Student Life Assistant – DIS Copenhagen

Do you want to support undergraduate students from U.S. universities develop meaningful experiences during their semester abroad? The Student Life Assistant serves as a conduit for students seeking information, guidance, and support related to their health, wellbeing, and logistical aspects to their study abroad experience, and helps facilitate student events and activities. As the Student Life Assistant, you will gain practical skills in service and intercultural communication through day-to-day operations. You will be part of the Student Life team (which is part of the larger Housing & Student Life Department) and report to our Student Life Manager.

This position is a full-time internship over 15 months, as a part of the DIS Post-Graduate Internship Program for alumni.

Who are you?

  • DIS alum with a Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Self-motivated and proactive, driven to take initiative and move projects forward with an ambitious mindset
  • Technologically adept, with an eye for detail and experience in testing web-based applications
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Personable and service-minded, excelling in face-to-face interactions and fostering a supportive, student-focused environment
  • Clear and effective communicator, skilled in both written and verbal communication
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), Adobe Creative Suite, and Outlook
  • Outgoing and creative, contributing to positive team dynamics and engaging with students in meaningful ways
  • Interest in event management and organizing and leading student activities

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Front-end and back-end programming for the DIS Navigate App, including maintaining the engagement plan, posting and organizing announcements about events, activities, community engagement, DIS clubs, affinity groups, and student organizations.
  • Create and moderate student groups throughout the term, ensuring an engaging and safe online environment by reviewing flagged content, providing comments, and directing students to relevant resources as needed
  • Provide direct student assistance at the Student Hub, offering practical guidance on studying at DIS and living in Denmark
  • Organize logistics for various student events hosted at the Student Hub, such as Arrival Workshops, and contribute to developing new student events and activities
  • Support and guide DIS student-driven clubs, helping students kickstart and manage their clubs while providing ongoing administrative assistance throughout the semester
  • Maintain and update corkboards at the Student Hub with timely, seasonal, and relevant information about DIS activities and events in Copenhagen, ensuring accessibility and clarity for students
  • Perform general office administrative tasks
  • Co-lead Study Tours as relevant

Additional Job Details

Due to the cyclical nature of the semester system, the workload is typically very heavy during preparation for the students’ arrival and the first weeks of every semester (January, May, August, and December). This is balanced with calmer periods during the semesters.

Interns are hired to work 37 hours a week, excluding lunch breaks. Normal business hours at DIS are approximately from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. You can expect to spend the bulk of your working time during normal business hours; however, some tasks happen during the evenings/weekends.
