The Royal Danish Defence College (RDDC) invites applications for an assistant professorship in Innovation and Management at the Department of Leadership and Organization.
The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the department’s research and teaching environment and RDDC’s overall research strategy. We also expect the applicant to strengthen collaboration with defence actors, institutions and society regarding social, technological and scientific innovation in defence and security organizations.
About us
The Department for Leadership and Organization (ILO) conducts education, research, and development in the field of leadership and organization primarily within the context of the Danish Defence. We educate leaders at all levels, from non-commissioned officers to military top executives within the areas of leadership, command, management and administration. In addition, provide support for professional development and organizational reform processes within all our areas of expertise. We work inter-disciplinarily in close collaboration between professional military officers, researchers, and other civilian occupations.
Our research focuses on leadership and organization from an interdisciplinary perspective. Methodologically, we primarily work qualitatively, drawing primarily on case and field studies. Our current research projects range from comparative studies of operational leadership (command) to collective defence and the changing character of war and battlefields, to studies of public governance and reform implementation, to focusing on phenomena such as societal resilience and military adaptation, to investigations of the military profession – including how professionals are developed, trained, and educated.
About the position
The assistant professorship is a non-tenured position of four years with teaching and research responsibilities starting on May 1 2025 or as soon as possible subject to mutual agreement. To fulfil the requirements of the positions, we expect the applicant to be physically present regularly, actively participate in the department's activities, and be engaged in the research and teaching environment.

The job responsibilities might include:
- Teaching and examination in the military master study program
- Development of existing and new study programs
- Individual and community-based research activities of high international standard
- Promotion of RDDC’s academic reputation
- Communicating findings to the public in general and to RDDC stakeholders in particular
- Support military leaders and organizations in development of innovation and organizational processes
- Responsibility for publishing, scientific communication and research-based teaching
- Attracting external funding opportunities
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD degree or have equivalent qualifications on the time of appointment.
Emphasis is placed on the applicant’s research potential, which means that a researcher with a large research potential may be preferred to a researcher with a large research production.
As part of the teaching obligation is in Danish, especially the part related to administration, it is prioritized that the applicant can write and speak Danish.
Terms of employment and Salary
You will be employed and paid according to the current Academic Agreement in the State. Depending on your qualifications, there will be an opportunity to negotiate a supplement. The position is linked to an employer-financed pension scheme of 17.1%.
As an assistant professor/associate professor at the Danish Defence Academy, you will also be covered by the current circular on minutes on certain employment conditions for civilian researchers with and without teaching obligations and civilian academic teachers at the Danish Defence Academy.
As an employee at the Ministry of Defence, you must be able to obtain a security clearance and obliged to participate in peace-making and peacekeeping operations.

The Royal Danish Defence College is located in several places in the country, but most of the employees are located at Svanemøllen's Barracks, while the other employees are located at Frederiksberg Castle, Varde, Frederikshavn and Karup.
