Novonesis (Novozymes)
Are you ready for a new beginning?
We need your talent, knowledge and dedication to better our world with biology.
Our purpose points the way
In Novonesis, we know that solutions rooted in biology can help solve humanity’s biggest challenges. Since we began more than a century ago, this has been our guide. It’s how we've gotten so far. And it’s how we'll impact the future. Now, more than ever, the world needs change. And with biosolutions, the possibilities for transformation are endless.
We’re here to better our world with biology.
Industrial Postdoc - Protein Chemistry & Assays
Do you want to use your scientific passion to develop products that change people's lives? Then you might be our new Industrial Postdoc.
Join us as our new Postdoc for cell-free synthesis with enzyme cascades.
Novonesis works closely with customers, partners and the global community to create a better and more sustainable world through science and research. As part of R&D, you will help to find biological solutions and build new business areas that can pave the way for a brighter future. We are looking for a postdoc with a deep passion for innovating and studying biocatalytic systems comprising multi-enzyme cascades.
Welcome to Protein Chemistry & Assays
The department is part of our Protein Chemistry & Assays function and consists of around 20 scientists and laboratory technicians located at Novonesis' Innovation Campus in Lyngby. We focus on product development and innovation rooted in molecular application understanding, that is the translation of real-world problems to biosolutions through science and technology. This is achieved by combining competences within bioimaging, colloidal chemistry, modelling, biophysics and biochemistry in close collaboration with our application areas.
The Industrial Postdoc position is part of a bilateral project between Technical University of Munich (TUM) and Novonesis, with a fixed duration of three years.
During that time, you will focus on designing and developing multi-enzyme cascades for the transformation of biomass into chemical building blocks for the bioplastics industry. The lab work will include protein engineering, expression optimization and protein purification, enzyme activity assays and kinetics, and in-deep biophysical characterization including stability, and interactions with small molecules. Furthermore, you will work on lab-scale prototypes of one-pot enzyme cascades and establish immobilization procedures based on the departments’ competences.
The department is highly international, and we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team, so you can expect to work with colleagues of different nationalities, cultures, and expertise. Furthermore, you will be mentored by highly experienced Scientists from both TUM and Novonesis.
In this role you'll make an impact by:
You will work on research projects in teams with scientists and laboratory technicians across departments and countries. It is therefore expected that you will find it easy to collaborate and thrive in the context of multidisciplinary project groups. Your collaborative mindset, drive and learning capability will be crucial to succeed in the role.
The successful candidate is a strong team player who engages proactively with the broader organization and external collaborators, independently plans and executes experiments, and can put results in a broader context.
The successful candidate will have:
- A Ph.D. in Protein Science, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or relevant subjects.
- A strong scientific background with critical thinking skills, entrepreneurial mindset and ability to formulate ideas for experiments from diverse data/knowledge inputs.
- Theoretical knowledge and experimental experience working with enzymes, including enzyme engineering, purification, functional and structural characterization (i.e. stability, solubility and enzyme-substrate interactions).
- Experience with assay development and design and optimization of in vitro multi-enzyme cascades (cell-free cascades)
- Experience with enzyme immobilization is an advantage, but not a requirement.
- Strong communication skills and ability to conclude and share own results in oral as well as in written form.
- Excellent collaboration skills with a positive attitude and a desire to achieve results together with others with a holistic mindset.
- A fundamental passion for science and molecular mechanisms of enzymes with a strong desire to make a difference in the world.
- Fluency in English as you will work closely with colleagues of many different nationalities.
- Flexibility to travel to the cooperation partner in Germany for research stay (TUM campus Straubing).
