Expert Technical Assistant for Transgenic Services, Center for Core Facilities

The University seeks an Expert Technical Assistant for Transgenic Services for the Transgenic Core Facility within the Animal Core Facility at the Center for Core Facilities, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, starting 1 December 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Transgenic Core Facility
The Transgenic Core Facility (TCF) at the University of Copenhagen (KU) provides basic and advanced services to scientists in the areas of genetic modification both in mice and cell lines, embryonic stem cell derivation and manipulation, mouse embryo culture and manipulation, assisted reproduction technologies and cryopreservation (Core Facility for Transgenic Mice – University of Copenhagen). TCF is part of the Animal Core Facility, which provides excellent husbandry and welfare conditions of laboratory animals for KU´s researchers, and it is embedded in the Center for Core Facilities (CCF, Center for Core Facilities – University of Copenhagen) that gathers all the mayor platforms and technical services at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.

Job description
The TCF looks for a technical assistant to support and enhance the operation capacity of the existing team. The primary duties of the Expert Technical Assistant will consist of:

  • performing embryo harvesting, culture and transfer to recipient females
  • performing mouse line archiving and GM mouse colony management
  • supporting the microinjection area: DNA/RNA and ESC injection in mouse embryos
  • supporting the molecular biology area: gene editing and genotyping strategies and other molecular biology techniques
  • advising facility users on scientific projects and results
  • contributing to technical development and implementation of new transgenic techniques
  • data recording and establishment of databases for benchmarking of services

The applicant should be able to work at least one weekend a month.

Required qualifications
We are looking for a candidate who holds a bachelor or master degree in Biology or Medical Sciences and FELASA-certified education and training to work with laboratory animals, and is fluent in English both oral and written. They must possess solid general understanding of genome-editing technologies, especially CRISPR/Cas9, and proven hands-on experience with major molecular biology, mouse embryo handling and cryopreservation technics, as well as extensive user-level experience on database management and Microsoft Office applications. They should be able to work independently on a daily basis but also be a proactive team player who looks after the improvement of the core facility in all aspects.

Salary and Terms of Employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning Academics in the state sector concluded between the Danish Ministry of Finance and Akademikerne (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). There will be an opportunity to negotiate supplements based on qualifications. You can read more about salary levels in the state sector www.loenoverblik.dk (in Danish).
We offer a one-year contract in a full-time position (37 hours a week).
